Have Kelowna Bikers Become Suicidal?

Postby Nicolette_Fuller » Apr 9th, 2012, 12:16 pm

It seems with the nicer weather that we're seeing alot more bikers out and about but it seems lately that they're simply not obeying the rules of the road. I had a instance the other day where I was stuck with a large truck in front of me and also one beside me with plenty of traffic behind him(to the point where I couldn't move over to the side) as I came up on a large group of bikers whom only 2 of the 3 across were INSIDE the bike lane, the other way riding RIGHT on the line. I honked my horn and motioned if they could move over, I was then FLIPPED OFF by the biker. At that point I really didn't care how close I got to him as I passed. I think bikers need to start paying a little more attention to their riding ettiquet, more times than not I see them riding on the bike lane line instead of inside, there have been numerous occassions in the past week where I've slammed on my breaks because of a bike jutting out in front of me to make a left hand turn at the lights. No offence but you are not a car and if you're in the bike lane we don't see you when we're already in the left hand turn lane. I think people out there really need to use some sense before they get on their bike this spring, its not always the drivers fault when bikers get hit.

Good luck finding ANYONE within the law enforcement community that would actually TICKET a cyclist. Their universal mantra......."Rules of the road are for everybody........................but us". Stop signs are a suggestion. $10,000 worth of green paint on the 'cycle paths' means, "Avoid at all costs!"

Bikes? Thats minor, you should try driving a dump truck pulling a tandem trailer with fenders and mirrors sticking out and navigating around roller bladers arms and legs flailing out into traffic lanes. Fun Fun Fun.

I think at the end of the day, cyclists get together at their favourite green tea watering hole and compare notes ...

"Ya shoulda seen the fear in that old fart's eye when I swerved into his lane ..."

"That's nuthing ... the semi drove nearly two miles outta his way to avoid me after I ..."

Stupid cyclists. I detest them on the roads. They NEED to build separate bike paths in this town.

As a cyclist and as a driver the problem isn't cyclists, it's humans. Whether they're behind the wheel texting and not shoulder checking to when they're on a bike thinking they own the road, our population is presupposed to have a significant portion that don't think much of basic common courtesy. Hopefully there's another portion of us who care and talk to others about making ALL of our cycling/driving habits better.

I was on Gordon when this happened, right between KLO and where Cod Father's is. I'm usually fine with cyclists but its been this trend lately of riding either with too many people across or ON the bike line itself.

Bikers ride motorcycles. Cyclist ride bicycles. Its not only the cyclist but some drivers are just as bad.
Was passed on tthe right, yes the bicycle lane by a guy in an elevated Hummer who thought I was going to slow. Did the speed limit, 70km, and so did the car in front of me. Just a complete idiot. Those bicycle lanes that are part of the right lane and separated by a white line are no bicycle lanes as such. To me they are suicide lanes. When I ride my bicycle on Gordon I be on the sidewalk. Rather have a ticket then a coffin. And what about Harvey through town. Bicycles in the HOV lane? another suicide situation. SInce many in Kelowna like to see Gray and council to ride the buses for a month because of poor service , maybe they also should ride a bicycle and get some experience on how poorly this city deals with bicyclists.

When we're walking, we hate drivers. When we're driving, we hate pedestrians. Regardless of the mode of transportation, we hate cyclists all of the time.

The factuality of this happening has little connection to whether or not you choose to believe it.
