Grow up folks. Show some courtesy to those not travelling by car, and get over your perceived entitlement to the road. It's the price you pay for living near other people.

"Perceived entitlement"?
People with motorvehicles PAY for use of the roadways and cyclists are the ones with the "entitlement" issues. Cyclists should have a little appreciation for motorists because without the cars there wouldn't be as many paved roadways.

I had to slow down for a cyclist on the way home, and go slightly around him to be on the safer side.

My life is ruined.

When is the support group meet-up for people who's lives will never be the same?

We pay a lot of money to drive, but that's our choice, just as it's the cyclists choice to get exercise, and benefit the planet through reduced oil consumption.

While I respect cyclists (to a degree), for your sakes, and the sake of people who drive whether out of necessity due to distance or time constraints (or laziness) , Cyclists, please ride single file when you're within arms reach of a vehicle...
It really just makes sense...

Building dedicated bike paths away from traffic, while a great idea, is definitely not financially feasible in our current state of affairs.

So can we work together to make our current situation more safe, please?

Probably not..

Side by side cyclists, ultimately, IMHO are a form of Vehicular Darwinism.

Tuesday, 7 pm - your house
Make food, provide beer ... we'll all be there to give you pats on the back for suffering so much all for the good cause of courtesy to idiot cyclists.

To all the posters that think that cyclists don't pay to use the roads you are so wrong. We pay our property and income taxes and most of also drive 4 wheeled vehicles too but most importantly in the absence of bike lanes or when we have to make left turns we have no choice but to claim the road like any other vehicle so please watch out when we are doing so.

If you insist on "playing chicken" with a 3000+ pound automobile just remember you have no cage to protect you.
If you want to ride responsibly and share the road by all means.

I am done playing nice, for those that insist on riding 2 or more abreast you can expect the same ignorance in return.

Riding bikes paired up wouldn't be a problem if people went buying oversized small-penis trucks, with after market wheels and rims that stick out *way beyond* the quarter panels - which is illegal but obviously not enforced in out city.

Those trucks take up the entire lane and usually the mirrors extend into my bike lane.

Given these clowns driving these trucks are usually playing with their white sunglasses or their cell phones, keeping the truck in the 5 inch window centered in the lane is impossible and they usually are drifting either into my lane or into the oncoming lane.

For the record I ride single file, but driving around in huge tanks with illegal wheels and rims and complaing about "having to squeeze by bikers" is rather amusing. Buy a normal sized car!

Oh wow.

Violent threat with a 3000 pound vehicle.

Most vehicles are not as you describe. Most are normal sized cars - and semis, delivery trucks, farm trucks, teensy smart cars, city buses, motorcycles and everything else under the sun. Cyclists who do not follow the rules of the road and who do not look out for their own safety are a hazard to everyone else using them - just as vehicle drivers and pedestrians are who do not follow the rules.

No violence involved, just a little friendly road hogging of my own.

I am done with being courteous to bikers in this town. I've never seen such ignorance on whees and I lived on the course for the Ironman for 10 years. Cyclists here think it's a right to ride side by side in the bike lane or in a vehicle lane, needless to say I have stopped giving you guys space. Expect to get my mirror to the back of your heads from now on from my small penis 1 ton truck with stock wheels. Anybody with that mentality deserves to be in the morgue. I ride a bike everyday, and it's called on a mountain with trails that actually give you a workout. With the tights you people wear it's hilarious to hear you call other people with a truck lacking of a penis?? I apologize in advance to your family for having to pick your brains off the roads after you were in my lane.

If bikers wore leather and rode Harleys would there be threats to run them off the road?

There have been, but it's usually to do with how loud their exhaust is.

I doubt very much these folks are who ride in the bike lanes.
