These birds do not hope or have feelings in the same way as human beings do about their offspring. It is a biological process and they don't sit on their eggs, incubating them, wondering if one of their lil goslings will grow up to be the most famous gander or create new migratory practices that make it more efficient for them.
Lets not forget the most important job our feathered friends have....EVERY duck or goose has a large expectation by their parents to finally retire Gilbert Godfried and be the new face of television to yell AFLACK!

Baulde wrote:Its is pretty embarrassing they are going out and shaking eggs for geese population control. IMO they should trap, shoot, charge $2 a "ticket" for anyone that wants to trap and take a goose home and eat it. Not pay someone to go around and shake egg's. This is an over the top bleeding heart feel good method to try and keep over the top animal rights activists placated just so they can try to avoid them whining and making a fuss.
I guess they just find new things to complain about.
Oh I see let it grow up first then kill it. Nice. But you do know that it is more alive when it is fully grown then at the egg stage.

Well, we do that with chickens and cows - let them grow up and then eat them.

I know that, I am just pointing out the OP's way of thinking is just very odd.

I'd rather not reread the OP's post again - it made me ill.

AND
Geese
Ducks
Turkeys
Pigs. Sheep
Rabbits
Quail
Frogs
Fish
alligators
Snakes
Pigeons
Deer
Moose
Elk
Cougar
Beaver
Bear
Shark
Whale
Seal
And on and on.
Bipedal or quadruped, fur bearing or not, we eat them all. In all forms from embryo to full grown. If it was not meant to be that way, why do they all taste so good?

Problem with that is, she will just keep laying new eggs until the nest is full. That is why they "addle" the eggs and return them to the nest. She will sit for 28 days and then abandon the nest and all unhatched eggs.
For those that don't know, 1 goose egg is equal to 3 chicken eggs and taste the same. Duck eggs, not so much.

This is the second time I can say I am embarrassed to say I'm from Kelowna. First the bunnies that are going to take over the world and now the geese. You don't like it? Move Antarctica where there is very little life to contend with.
Worse, these geese will still tend to their nests in hopes their life-cylcle will continue. Not only have we taken away that hope but those birds of being deceived by us great "Killownians".
Go for a swim, or a walk in the park down by the mill.
Lets see how you feel once you've got swimmers itch and the bottoms of your feet are covered in white and green goose *bleep*.
Geese are like Mice, their population has been growing exponentially. Shake away, at least they're not being shot.

Re: Shaken Baby Syndrome
Talking about goose eggs, back in my younger days, my parents had given me and my roommates some "farm fresh" eggs that had been given to them by a "friend", who, once I got a little older and wiser realized he was a drunk. There were chicken eggs and one goose egg. Word of advice: never attempt to fry "fresh from the farm" eggs while hungover. One of the chicken eggs contained an almost completely formed chick which was entertaining; and well, then the goose egg. I must first qualify by saying I do not like egg yolks. I can still remember how my gag reflex started working when that huge orange/red bloodied yolk landed in the frying pan. Needless to say, I've never attempted to eat a goose egg since...gag.

They were warned! They were served appropriate notice to "cease and desist" that behavior or they would be sterilized. There were warnings placed in strategic locations in every orchard, in both official languages, well in advance.
