Styrofoam Recycling in Kelowna

Postby E3V » May 12th, 2012, 2:20 pm

I was wondering if there are any places in Kelowna accepting Styrofoam for recycling.

From what I can see the Village of Harrison Hot Springs accepts styrofoam for recycling.... now that is kind of pathetic don't you think? Perhaps we should ask the manufacturer/packaging businesses not to use styrofoam as it is filling our landfills!

Most of the packing materials the I deal with look like styrofoam, but they are made out of cornstarch. As for dealing with the styrofoam itself, I just put it in the recycling bin.
Nothing on the Internet is so serious it can't be laughed at, and nothing is as laughable as people who think otherwise.

Don't put it in the recycling. City of Kelowna doesn't recycle it. I might be wrong but I seem to recall hearing they can fine you if they catch you putting things in recycling that do not belong there.

Do what i use to do, take it to places that will make use out of it. I guess it also depends on the type that you have available. I use to receive tons of peanut Styrofoam and give it to the business next door that shipped large amounts of small fragile boxed items. If you cant recycle it you may as well reuse it when possible

I wonder if someone from the city recycle dept would mind explaining why they do not take styrofoam. In my opinion their overall program is effective and efficient enough that there must be a logical reason for NOT recycling it. Perhaps someone from the city would enlighten everyone.

Perhaps you might email the City and enquire.

The approach to the W.R. Bennett bridge was built using styrofoam. Maybe the City thinks you can just bury it.

Maybe you can enlighten everyone as to why they would want to do that?

You would have been better off being straightforward about it.

My apologies, it was meant as tongue in cheek.
