Rose Valley Park - dogs on leash?

Just curious as to what people think. I can understand if your dog is aggressive towards other dogs or people, or doesn't come when you call. But come on, it's a pretty big mountain and dogs love to explore.

MY MY! A New York in a minute 5th Avenue lap dog that is too loveable to be around people or other dogs needs a exercise machine not a leash.

The mountain is steep and not many owners or dogs climb to come down the other side, however, Rose Valley Park serves as an area that contains the Rose Valley Resevoir and all dogs (and some humans - I have seen it with my own eyes) should be on a leash to prevent wandering close to the lake where drinking water is pulled for some in the District of West Kelowna.

My point is, they have this tiny area down on gellatly/boucherie right by a fairly busy road designated as an off leash area. Yet there is a very large park and dogs aren't able to run around freely. As for the reservoir, and our drinking water, I'm sure that there are alot of wild animals who use it frequently and I don't see any park rangers with plastic bags picking up their doodoo. Just my opinion.

If you just keep right on trucking down the hill a bit off to the right of the road up to the resevoir you can get on Crown Land where no leash is required and you can walk up and down to Smith Creek and beyond without a leash. I agree wild animals do use the park however, pile after pile when you increase the numbers in the park area will affect the drinking water. The little area down by the lake is very much at risk at being no longer in use as a dog park in the next while.

As a property owner and dog owner who butts right onto Rose Valley Park I have to say keep your dog on a leash. I have seen dogs off leash chase deer through my yard and crap and their owners are whistling and calling their dogs but nowhere to be seen. This can happen at 6:ooam.

Water from the resivoir is treated, more animals use it as a washroom then you can think of, Dog's chasing deer? no different from bears/cougars/hunters chasing deer I think they will survive.

Difference is, if a hunter, a trapper a Conservation officer, or regular joe blow sees your out of control dog chasing deer or other wildlife your dog can be legally shot.

Harassing wildlife is no joke.

Key word "may". If a dog is just chasing deer I can gaurantee a co especially the ones I know here would not shoot a dog over a deer. Or even a moose for that matter. Its a true shame people get so bent out of shape over dogs.

Is Hwy 97 behind Dairy Queen?

It's the one at Westbank Centre Park. With the large and small dog sections. No "NO TRESPASSING" sign that I've ever seen.
