Had to laugh at one of the comments - trucks expect people to get out of the way? Well, I certainly hope so if they are jaywalking. I have no issue with heavy trucks using another street as long as the configuration of Ellis doesn't change. Workers driving home need all the lanes to vacate the downtown core.

Totally agree Fancy.

Added later: MOT should install advance left @ Gordon & Harvey........ heading uptown.

While I have no opinion either way, I applaud the OP for putting their money where their mouth is and actually doing something.

Well done.

Interesting that this came up shortly after a lengthy discussion about the same topic (link below). The petition isn't quite in line with the original issue - perhaps the originator found the first argument not effective enough...

Those unaware of the previous discussions may wish to review them prior to deciding to sign the petition or not. Many different views have been discussed to length (and then some) :)

Anybody can spin up one of those petitions for free.

Here's mine, in fact: http://www.change.org/en-CA/petitions/c ... ruck-route

What's the problem with it being a truck route from 7am to 7pm?

This was the reasoning from the other thread:

GreyGoose wrote:Since Ellis is considered downtown and the values of property is superior why would you have a truck route there as compared to Gordon? Firstly, there is much more foot traffic downtown than there is on Gordon for starters.

:)
Richter has more residential area than Ellis so that wouldn't be an option. Ellis has sidewalks so pedestrians won't have issues with traffic. Busses use Ellis. Though the petition might be a good start nothing will happen if the intersection of any potential route to take Ellis' place isn't lobbied for. Isn't that MOT's jurisdiction?

GreyGoose goes back even further with downtown parking and the truck route.

I can't imagine Gordon being used as a truck route - it's so busy now the left turn signals would have to be lengthened and installed for the left hand turn to Clement (can't remember if there is one there or not) (again - also more residential than Ellis).

Good job LordEd. :smt023

Seems so far the pro side has a couple of lawyers who don't want their corner office views marred by trucks, which again have been there far longer than their buildings, and some uppity condo owners looking to increase their property values by pushing what they don't like onto a different street with far more residential.

In other words extremely selfish reasons as opposed to legitimate concerns.

Hopefully the city folks recognize it for the transparent selfish proposal that it in fact is.

I don't see what the big deal is. This is a mixed use industrial area. Truck traffic is a necessity. All of the homes on Ellis are multilevel and away from the street anyway.

The big deal is that the kind of people that buy into the whole "cultural district" hype are snooty nose in the air types who think they're special, with odorless excrement, and thus deserve special consideration, as opposed to the hick rednecks that live on Gordon Drive and other streets. You know, the kind that dare make their own wine and or beer. :dyinglaughing:

When you consider that there are only a couple of residential buildings on Ellis Street between Harvey and Clement, it would be extremely foolish of the city to entertain any thoughts of making changes, for what can only aptly be described as a handful of self absorbed twits.

Heck at The Madison they get their noses out of joint if a person dare walk in the main entrance carrying a tool case. Trades need to slither in the back door, where they hardly have adequate provision to deal with them.
