Nick?

Not all the residents have business's on Ellis. One poor dear wrote on the petition that the building she lives in shakes however her "hair coloured" named store is downtown on Bernard.

Here are a few quotes from people that signed the petition.
Try crossing Ellis holding your granddaughter's hand to get to the library. Squealing brakes do not belong on this street.

Wonder if this lady, who doesn't even live here, cares about the people that need to walk across Gordon everyday to get their kids to school.

So I'm not woken up every hour with a logging truck barreling by. If they used an alternate route it would make the neighbourhood more pleasent. They drive sooo fast it's not safe :(

Guess she should have thought about that before buying there.

One of my faves.
It is ridiculous how a city that claims to have vision can't see that having a truck route running through the middle of a neighborhood still trying to grow and attract business and residents is beyond me.

Nobody there understands how a crosswalk works. Brakes don't squeal if you don't run into traffic.

Park an army of bylaw officers and start handing out jaywalking tickets. All of the safety issues will dissolve.

how did I miss the petition link, sounds like it is a good giggle.
why people move into places then complain is beyond me, not like the trucks suddenly appreared on Ellis.
Meanwhile if I lived on Gordon I'd be putting up a stink

Jaywalkers are hardly in a position to be complaining about squealing brakes. They should in fact be glad they did hear squealing brakes as opposed to the other option.

I swear I can't help but think you live on the 13th floor of a 12 story building, lights on but nobody's home.

I'm not the one complaining about safety. The local residents seem incapable of handling themselves on their own. They admit it clearly and publicly on the petition, so the city should step in. A few tickets would greatly improve safety.

That, and if/when this change is complete, make sure that property assessments is notified. Considering the slum conditions reported, a significant tax increase is in order.

:rate10:
If those on Ellis want this change solely to benefit their living/operating conditions then it is those residents/business owners who should pay for any improvements through a tax increase. This should include ALL staff time spent on this, the cost of a left turn light and extended turning lane, all signage changes, etc, etc, etc. Seeing that the residents request will have a negative effect on the environment due to longer distances traveled by trucks some form of carbon tax should also apply to them. Further those who live on Gordon which soon must face the horrible conditions presently endured on Ellis should also get a tax reduction that those on Ellis should make up for through a further tax increase on their properties.
If the Ellis st residents want this then they, and only they, should pay for it but don't saddle the rest of Kelowna's residents with the costs associated in providing benefits to this small select group.

I wonder when some tool from Centuria Urban or the new Regency Retirement will start complaining? Pretty soon they'll have trucks going up to Leathead and coming all the way down enterprise to the bypass.
You can't fix stupid........BUT you can dress them up and over pay them to teach your kids!

I think moving the truck route to Gordon drive, away from the downtown core is a great idea that fits very well into the city's long-term strategy for growth. I think it's nice to have a city council take the potential our downtown has seriously.

Flame away........I can hardly wait.

What about any chances of future growth on Gordon Dr? Do those residents deserve less consideration than those who live downtown?
Why not permanently move the truck route to Clement which is what that road was created for?

I know these are totally dumb questions but here goes ...

Why not have done ALL this urban high density development in an area where it would not conflict with industry and truck routes?

Why put all the city's cultural amenities and Prospera in this small area of town? Add the casino into that mix. By doing what they did they created problems with traffic and with parking and didn't solve anything.

And now they are going to add 1,000+ more problems with the IHA building.
