When I first saw Bernard, I was thinking why have cars on it to start with - sidewalks look nice though.

How many of these $14,000 street lights are there? I see there are two different kinds of lighting - one a double (that they call a street light) and one a single (they call a pedestrian light).

http://www.kelowna.ca/CityPage/Docs/PDF ... taging.pdf

I did a rough quick count of the double "streetlights" and came up with 22.
22 x $14,000 = $308,000.

My, we do have illusions of grandeur, don't we?

Didn't anyone on council question these "little details"? Or did they just rubber stamp the whole project without looking at any of the actual numbers that went into the total?

For those who care ... I also counted 7 handicapped parking spaces - one per block.

Was it a vermin rat or was it a muskrat? Muskrats are quite common along the shoreline.

They say the best way to express yourself is with your wallet, therefore I will not buy
a bloody thing downtown for a long time and maybe never. The parking is basically
gone, if I want to walk instead of parking I would go to the mall therefore I will go to
the mall.
Local businesses downtown should be asking a lot of questions, they have ruined the
downtown. I at least know I have no interest in going there. I never did like the brick
work stuff to begin with As for people not wanting cars down there the fore sight of
the original city fathers demonstrated they knew the future nice wide streets and parking
for their time. Now its a Yuppies haven and their welcome to it. Small merchants downtown
should be worried the locals won't be going there in increasing numbers because aside from
a new street there are no big anchor stores to attract people into the downtown.

I actually like it! I think it's really nicely done! There are always going to be the "Negative Nancy's" out there..

Revamped downtown = more visitors. More visitors = better environment.

And BTW, it not all about me at all as I don't pay any Kelowna taxes.

Well, if you don't pay taxes then don't whine how they're spent. At least don't make it sound like you're speaking for everybody - I like that downtown is being revamped. We'll be there for a dinner and a show on Saturday, looking forward to walking around there.
