"Howe does the government 'speak if not through the medium of advertising ? Maybe you have some other method no one else knows about."
Hmm... Am I looking at a Freudian slip of sorts here? The real question here is how does Howe Street speak if not through the medium of government advertising?
The Government, in theory, speaks in the Legislative Assembly... you know the big building in Victoria, that unlike the native indigenous people of this land, is still sitting idle.
Legislative Television, provided there is some, is broadcast on BC cable systems and on the Star Choice satellite system channel 393. http://www.leg.bc.ca/hansard/8-10-1.htm
Here in Penticton it shows the leg is broadcasting on channel 113... bit of a story there... I tuned into 113 to see what was happening Provincially quite a while back. Informative? Well, I can't adequately describe the sense of lucidity that overcame me while watching this channel. I really liked how they all had pet names for each other and I enjoyed the absolute clarity that I felt with watching my government in action.
I was a little concerned that this channel may have been the creation of the NDP and harbouring unionized broadcast technicians that went about the daily task of turning the switch on in the morning and off in the evening, but then I realized that the channel had probably been outsourced thru a non disclosed service agreement maintained with some huge multinational telecom provider, a battalion of remote administrators and a division of contract consultant IT specialists.
My concerns assuaged, I settled into the daily programming and while others seemed up in arms over things like, Christy's credit card bills, Bill's lack of accountability with the legislative accounts, the Provincial budget and Ken Boessenkool - it all seemed perfectly reasonable to me.
I decided to share my little discovery with a trusted friend... thought he could use comfort I had found in knowing how our Government operated in Victoria. That's when it all came crashing down on me...
Turns out the Leg is actually broadcast on channel 122 in Penticton and I hadn't been watching our Government in action - at all, but instead, I had been watching reruns of a television show called Jersey Shores.
I suppose, as the viewer they thank for watching every night before they turn off the static screen, it is incumbent upon me to contact them and let them know the people at shaw have switched up the channel listing - but really, what would be the point?

Drip Torch - an upright and steadfast keeper of the flame, but when tilted sideways the contents spill and then our destiny is in the wind...
