The town seems to be split on the pronunciation of the street "Huston" in Peachland?
Is the "u" pronounced "uh" or "ew"??

Ha! It seems trivial, but this stirs up debate in the community of Peachland (ya, I know...we don't have a lot going on here)

I pronounce Huston with the "u" pronounced, be it acceptable by the long time locals or not. I have lived in Peachland since early 2002, and I continue to pronounce Trepanier as Tre/pan/yah.

The way I see it is, if someone tries to convert me to their way, it reveals more about that person than it does about me.

I was raised (in Ontario) with the (sociably unpopular) concept that the rules of manners and social acceptability’s are to be used to guild one’s self, and, are not be used to judge others. This way of thinking I am aware is not popularly practiced so I am prepared to accept that if I am corrected or thought-less-of because of the way I pronounce a word, so be it.

Thankfully to a very wise person in my childhood, I learned one can privately be a round peg in a square world. This wise person also taught to and fostered in me the ability to be flexible and adaptable to my environment.

I realize that with each way/choice, there are consequences, and that my outlook is not suitable for everyone, but... for me it works.

Kind of like Osoyoos, where you can tell the difference between the locals and the visitors by how it is pronounced...
