Snow removal and road maintenance in Westbank - Glenrosa

So we are understanding that Argo is no longer doing our roads, but the new company who should be doing it has failed on their first snow day. Not once today have we seen a plow or sander on our road, which is a bus route.

I do understand that most of the snow has now gone off the road, but god forbid it ices up tonight..... It will be a skating rink.

Our tax dollars help pay for this and I for one will be calling the district office to complain. We will miss Argo. They rocked!

We're near Brentwood which is a busy bus route. Nothing. I supposed DWK's inbox will be full tomorrow!

As of December 7, 2012 HMC Services Inc. will assume the provision of road services, under contract with the District of West Kelowna, for a total of five years. The contract is valued at a base of $1,731,469 per year.

Our reply to my email voicing my unhappiness at the way the roads were looked after.

I believe Argo had their equipment out working roads eventually on Monday the 12th , but they are coming to the end of their contract with the Province of BC as of Dec 6th.
Motivation is not within the District’s control, but Argo remains responsible for our road maintenance until that date.
We trust service will return to normal patterns once our new contractor, HMC, is in place Dec 7th.
Regards,

Wow..I guess for the next 2 months we can only hope we do not get any huge snow accumulations. Not really their worry or priority. Guess our 2 months of taxes that we pay for the remainder of the contract will be based on the service that we get :dyinglaughing:

Would be nice to get a rebate for poor service but don't hold your breath.

Had the unfortunate luck of following the snow plow up Glenrosa road yesterday and we had to laugh. For some reason the driver was plowing the middle of the road only moving over for oncoming cars. So basically he made it so anyone going up Glenrosa had to have their right wheel in the snow or cross the center, not to mention he was going as slow as I've ever seen a plow drive which I really didn't mind.

Then on the flip side the guy who did our residential street flew at such a speed as to spread the slush half way my driveway, which isn't easy given how steep it is and we have a sidewalk in front. A conservative estimate would be a 30 foot wake of slush being shot out like a pressure washer shooting stones and ice. I'd be suprised if he wasnt going over 60kph. Either he didn't care or he was sending a message to all the cars parked on the road which got absolutely blasted. Take that neighbours who always park in front of my house. :discodance:

Call ARGO to complain that you know their contract is up on December 7th, and that they have been paid taxpayer $$$$$$ to maintain the roads as done in previous years until they are no longer responsible. Perhaps they will start a process within their company that believes taxpayers count.

Remember that when you became a city, the provincial government maintained the road maintenance for five years, which is now coming to an end. As a resident of Joe Rich, you are only now experiencing the poor service that we have come to see as normal. But I wouldn't be quick to blame ARGO. Over the past decade, the Liberal government has steadily reduced the standards of road maintenance to save money and support the ultra low corporate tax rate, which is 2 percent below the national average. Now you can complain to the West Kelowna government, but you taxes are going to go up substantially.

RIGHT and Argo has been paid already !!!!! ! 800 663 6723

So far our Municipal Government has done just fine looking after taxpayers we will have to wait and see whether there are problems......

I wouldn't suggest that they have not done a good job, I merely suggest that costs and taxes are about to rise dramatically, the ver reason that the Liberals chose to offload the costs on you, the taxpayers.
