Who was a better mayor?

Post by 797hauler »

I'm curious to know what everybodies thoughts are, in regards to who was a better mayor. Walter grey or sharon shepard?
And how many people would re-elect the current mayor and council? It seems alot of people I have talked to, and people posting here have a different opinion then once before. Does kelowna need a whole NEW face? 1996 – 2005 Walter Gray
2005 - 2011 Sharon Shepherd - 2011 - present Walter Gray.

only two different mayors in 17years, both of which we have seen very little to no change. (my opinion only).

What do you think?

I'd vote for Sharon Shepherd again in a heartbeat. IMO she was a better mayor.

However, a council is made up of not just a mayor. The mayor is only one person making decisions - and there are people on council who work against what a mayor wants to see done. The question about the effectiveness of a mayor alone is moot.

Majority rules.

I'm not sure that would make much of a difference, politicians are all politicians and the political machine is a cumbersome thing at best.

There is honestly no difference between the two, except maybe we don't have quite such a preponderance of committees now. . .

Gray. Mrs Shepherd had her fingers in a lot of things that were none of her business, add to that....the Simspon Covenant.

Really, so you think it's ok for a current council to overturn the decisions of a previous council in terms of governance and covenants made with the forefathers of the city? They are agreements made in perpetuity . . you do know this right? And you think the manner of attack style politics employed by the Gray camp has a place in civil elections? If you answer yes to either, than you deserve Wally world and all the chaos to follow. I happen to agree with the Simpson Covenant and what it stands for and so should you, or everything historical and meaningful can easily be replaced . . . maybe some day in a manner that does affect you. I'd take one Shepherd over 100 Grays every single time.

Didn't that boondoggle with the Simpson Covenant start with Grey?

How about the whole mess with Milroy? And now Grey is back and Milroy is doing the new pier??? And John Thomson is rumouring that an Alberta company is building a new hotel on the waterfront?

http://www.castanet.net/edition/news-story--13-.htm

Could there be another new hotel for the Kelowna marketplace? Of course there could and if another development group from Alberta decide to go ahead it will be for sure, thus adding another major banner to the market. This would be considered a lakefront hotel/resort with a great view.
