$23.20 (assuming the 20% long term discount) is $700 / month. This does NOT include food. Food is $2 per feeding on their website if your supply runs out, so $4 on twice a day.

That brings it to $816. This also wouldn't include vet visits or anything like that. This also assumes that a kennel would provide a discount for a dog that may have behavioral issues.

http://www.wildwindkennels.ca/rates.htm: $17.50,($525) you provide blankets, food ($645 using previous food formula). Maybe a little cheaper, but not much. Add tax, and we're at $722.

http://www.topdogkennels.ca/boarding.htm: Starts at $29 with lots of extras to pay for.
http://www.spottedspa.ca/ $34 / night.
http://www.charlyscottagekennels.com/prices.html: $28 / night.

None of these seem to include food.

Last time I checked, the dog pound is not a dog boarding business and sure wouldn't provide the same services as a boarding kennel.

I thought the prices were to indicate maybe Diesel would be better off in a boarding kennel until a decision is reached considering how much it costs to keep him where he is now.

There are so many different angles and so many possibilities it's hard to count them all. Some pretty simple facts seem to be.

RDCO was incompetent and overbearing in their handling of the situation.
Dave Smith is an incompetent dog owner.
Dave is in his glory, causing trouble is something he excells at and he thrives on confrontation. He usually gets his own way because people get sick and tired of dealing with him.
Between them they have opened a huge drain for taxpayers money to pour through.
RDCO really needs to revamp their policies to prevent this sort of thing. The abilities of their staff are questionable.
Dave should be held responsible for as much of the legal expences as possible.
And lets not forget, Diesel really needs a good home.

Diesel should have been given up to a better home a long time ago instead of being used as a pawn in a tug-of-war of who's right and who's wrong. Poor dog was never looked after properly.

The solution might be to put ol' Dave down.

If nothing else, it would at least be cheaper. :D

why save diesel it's just a dog. To bad this dangerous animal is allowed to live and garble up resources when there's homeless people who need help and children living in poverty and going to bed hungry in Kelowna. 100,000 for a dog? rediculous!

This dog owner should be ashamed of himself and should have offered the dog for euthanasia when it was first identified as dangerous. But im sure he said 'my poor diesel is harmless give me my puppy back'.

Diesel was deemed to have issues, he has caused at least one family heartache by attacking their pet...why don't animal supporters/lovers feel for that animal? Why does a dangerous dog matter more than the animal it hurt? Why do we tolerate dog related aggression in today's society? Why do they want to save the dogs that have hurt other animals, or people? I am a dog owner, but I keep it in perspective, which I think is what too many dog loving advocates have lost, PERSPECTIVE! Why give to a fund to put something potentially dangerous back into society (ie, Diesel's defence fund - I wonder how much momentum has been lost there) How about giving to the Salvation Army for crying out loud! Give to the Gospel Mission, geez, give to the SPCA is you want to stand up for animals!

Diesel has never been trained and used to make a mockery of the system - $100,000.00 to date and climbing.

Diesel: the $100000 dog

Post by ticat900 »

QUOTE:
Diesel has been locked up in the RDCO pound since March, 2011 after being declared a dangerous dog while his owner, Dave Smith, fights an order to have his dog euthanized.
can anyone fill us in on what this dog did and why this has taken 2 years to this point?

I'm actually happy with the cost toping $100,000 in legal fees, by doing so we all get to see bureaucracy at work, as you can all see they believe they are omnipotent.

Some of us don't click on every single thread. I didn't know about this until this week either... I assumed that thread was some RDNO proposals to cut bus idling and whatnot, so never bother clicking.
