On the same day Statistics Canada announced the Federal economy created 40,000 jobs last month, the provincial government has announced that BC’s job growth also remains strong and steady.

In December 2012, B.C gained 4,300 full-time positions, with the construction sector leading the way with 14,800 jobs last month. Other areas of strong job growth include educational services (12,000+ jobs) and wholesale and retail trade (6,900+).

Regionally, Vancouver Island and the Coast gained 3,300 positions, the Kootenays
gained 800 positions, the North Coast and Nechako region gained 400 positions and the Northeast gained 300. Of BC's main metropolitan areas, Kelowna reported a gain of 600 jobs and Victoria gained 1,500.

The average hourly wage in the province went up 2.2 per cent compared to December 2011. For youth under the age of 25, the average hourly wage in December was up 5.8 per cent over last year.

"We are living in challenging economic times, but government has a solid plan in place to help ensure that BC's economy remains strong and steady and that the province continues to attract new investors and businesses,” says Pat Bell, minister responsible for labour.

"Government continues to invest in infrastructure and programs that will help British Columbians gain the skills they need to take advantage of the many job opportunities available in communities throughout the province. Continued progress in job creation this month demonstrates that BC remains on the right path."

Since December 2011, BC has added 19,400 jobs as a result of a gain of 30,800 full-time positions combined with a loss of 11,400 part-time positions.

That places BC fourth in Canada, behind Quebec (+138,000 jobs), Ontario (+100,300 jobs) and Alberta (+31,800 jobs).

600 new jobs in Kelowna

“In December 2012 . . . . full-time positions . . . Kelowna reported a gain of 600 jobs . . ..”

http://www.castanet.net/edition/news-story-85418-1-.htm#85418

Am I reading this right? 600 new full-time positions created in Kelowna in December?

If so, who reported that to Statscan, and where are those jobs? Any left to fill? Seriously.

Wait, I'll check!

Going back to June, I see only 182 here. Aww, guess they went fast, hey?

I suggest that most of was growth is in the construction industry. All trades are looking for good people.

I do not believe for a second that there are 600 new jobs in Kelowna.
Its just the liberals trying to look good as a provincial
election is coming up pretty quick.

That's one new job for every 183 person in Kelowna. (Based on 110,000 population)
Or one out of every 61 able-working person got a new job that didn't exist before. (According that 33% of Kelowna's Population is available to work .... Doesn't include childs or seniors.)

So it means that 1.64% of the working population got a new job.

Now... how many lost theirs?

In february, I can tell you that 200 people will be out of work at the Zellers store alone... 400 including the one on the West side and 600 including the one in Pecticton. Geez.. already back to 0 gain.

Obviously a press release republished as a fluff piece with no investigative reporting whatsoever.

December 2011 had a minimum wage of 9.50/hr. That went up to $10.25 per hour in May 2012. That difference amounts to just shy of 6%. It's little wonder that youth under the age of 25 saw a 5.8% increase in wages over last year - employers were legislated to give it.

It's actually *bleep*. She was called a *bleep* once.

The *bleep* issue goes back to last week. Christy Campbell was on a Vancouver Island talk show and the announcer asked her if she was a *bleep* or a Cougar. Like an idiot, she replied that she was a Cougar. How degrading to women in general for her to answer that way, when if she had half a brain, she should have stated that the question was inappropriate. That girl just doesn't know how to talk and think at the same time. It's no wonder that her handlers try to keep her away from the media.
