The Real Gun

Castanet had a article last week about a replica gun that was pointed and fired at some people collecting bottles. At the time they showed the picture of the replica gun and the real one. Today I found out I had the chose the wrong gun as the real one.
It is just a matter of time before someone gets shot while flashing around a fake gun

I chose the right one. Its a Smith & Wesson Military and Police (M&P) semi-automatic that comes in a variety of calibers. The magazine wasn't the only difference - the trigger was also different.

The fake one is sold in Walmart for $52 maybe the RCMP should be putting a ban on these being sold. Or certainly providing better education to people purchasing them for innocent purposes!!

That's great. But I think the point is that the differences are minor, and from afar they basically look identical in someone's hand.

Oh, I got the point of the article no problem.

Hope the RCMP member who owns the real gun has a permit for it :D

LOL on the "RCMP should be putting a ban on these being sold" - the RCMP do not make the rules or laws. They just enforce them.

I could see the difference, but I can't say I knew I was right in my choice.
I guessed right and luck was on my side.
They are VERY hard to distinguish.

Can you put yourself in the position of a officer.

Just a regular routine traffic stop as people believe them to be. The TOY sitting on the seat next to the driver. It's evening shift and there fore dark. Last second the driver realizes he forgot his Airsoft handgun on the seat and grabs it, hoping to conceal it before the officer sees it....although he/she has seen it.

Day light or not, that's a real gun if pointed at a officer in their mind.

In the heat of the moment, an officer wouldn't have that long to stare and compare the guns like we did. And even then it was difficult. Anybody caring these around, are playing with their life. Potentially getting shot at.

No.
I cannot.
I'd never be part of a criminal organization.
I can however see that distinguishing real from fake would be an issue with the toy pointed at your face in a confrontation.

I hope some day be it fake or not you do not have one pointed at you. Please don't paint all police with the same dirty brush!

Thanks!

And, people purchasing these real looking weapons for innocent purposes such as target practice need to remember showing off the weapon or flashing it around in public will likely result in a visit from police.

If you are travelling from home to a gun range or the bush to shoot, Clark says the gun should be transported in its case.

He says people should keep the weapon in the case until such time has they are at the place they will be shooting it.

Once finished, the weapon should be returned to the case and carried to a vehicle for safe transport back home.

Very confusing. Is RCMP Cst. Kris Clark indicating that all guns (rifles/shotguns/handguns) need to be transported in a case?
This is not true. Rifles and Shotguns do not need to be transported in a case.

Also, is RCMP Cst. Kris Clark not aware that the rules around handguns are very strict? Handguns may only be shot at a gun range.
