12:18 p.m. update: RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk has confirmed on Twitter the deaths have now been ruled a double homicide. A press conference will be held shortly. Castanet is on the scene and will provide more details when they become available.

12:10 p.m. update: The South East District Major Crimes unit is now handling the case. Castanet was the only media outlet on location through the night and we were there when the two bodies were removed from the SUV. We will have a full video later today.

Confirmed as a homicide....No doubt gang/drug related

Seems to me the crash might have occured after the vitims were killed and lost control of the vehicle, striking the concrete wall.

Or a really, really bad attempt to make it look like an accident.

Updated: West Kelowna double homicide
by Dave Preston

RCMP is not saying the public is in danger after a double murder in West Kelowna Monday night but police are suggesting the public remain vigilant.

West Kelowna RCMP responded shortly after 11 p.m. monday to the Tarravita condo complex on Auburn Road to a report of a single vehicle collision, according to Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.

They located a black SUV vehicle, which had struck a light standard, said Moskaluk.

Inside the SUV, police found two deceased individuals. Moskaluk said police quickly determined the deaths were homicides, were criminal in nature and not related to the collision.

RCMP canvassed witnesses and found out that a male was seen fleeing from the vehicle shortly after the collision and before police attended the scene.

Moskaluk said a police services dog was called out and it tracked the possible suspect direction of travel for several kilometres.

From the scene of the collision, the police dog tracked the suspect into a wooded, landscaped area adjacent to the Terravita complex to a walking trail that led to Bentley Road. From there, the trail continued in a southwest direction on Benteley Road and then Daimler Road.

The trail led the dog team to the Bylands Road area, then across Hwy. 97 to the Ross Road area and eventually to the area around the Mount Boucherie community complex, which includes Royal LePage Place and Mount Boucherie Senior Seconday School.

Moskaluk would not say whether the deceased individuals were male or female, how old they were or where they were from, as police are working to confirm their indentities and contact next of kin.

The investigation evolved in a strange manner, said Moskaluk, noting a report of a single vehicle accident turned into the discovery of two bodies.

Moskaluk said he does not want to alarm the public but he said people in West Kelowna should remain vigilant.

We are seeking public assistance with his investigation, said Moskaluk.

Of interest to police is anyone that may have seen something suspicious, including an individual running through the area the police dog tracked, shortly after 11 p.m. Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the non-emergency line at the West Kelowna RCMP Detachment (250-768-2880) or by anonymously calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-228-8477.

Could this be related to the millions of dollars that the RCMP seized not too long ago?
Could this be related to the chop shop bust recently?
