Talking to the police can get you killed? yep. don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

She had the gangster girlfriend look and had a tanning business which is a business that can be easily used to clean money.

Disagree. Tanning businesses don't typically make the kind of money dealing drugs would account for and would raise suspicions at the bank if large cash deposits were being made.

It's not easy to hide large cash volume anymore. Back in the 70's when the RICO act was created it was specifically aimed at organized crime who were using chartered banks to launder cash in huge volume. Back then and until the act, bad guys could walk into a bank with a duffel bag full of cash, deposit it into an account, no questions asked.

Banks have to ask now.

Does Canada have a RICO act?
I would wonder why the tanning salon was closed after ten years, and what she was living on.
There is also conspicuously no mention of the boyfriend's job. If he was paroled a year ago, one would think he had to earn a living somehow....
Wouldn't he have to report to his parole officer in this regard?

Not only did he just get out of prison...
Not only did she close up shop awhile ago...

But they drive a luxury SUV.
Apparently according to someone in this thread, she was driving a white Caddy Escalade...and was murdered in a black one.

Sure seems to be a lot of money in their lives for starting over.

Many components do not add up to a life of innocence...for either of them.

No,we don't have the RICO act as it exists in the states but banks are required to report on large cash deposits here because of the RIco act for the same reason.

That is why you have to declare anything over 10k when traveling.

We have FINTRAC here, which tracks financial issues in certain industries, businesses, and professions in relation to the proceeds of crime, money laundering, and terrorist financing act. It is not the same as the RICO act, which links individuals and groups to organized crime.

What I don't understand is that the worldwide drug business is estimated to generate revenues of approx. $400 BILLION each year. This makes it one of the largest businesses in the world.

This means that $400 billion dollars is laundered every year around the world...A very small fraction of this is discovered by FINTRAC and other authorites

Seems the criminals have a pretty good system

Links, links, links :D Please.

Kim Bolan's crime blog ... http://blogs.vancouversun.com/2013/02/2 ... on-murder/

and it says this:

Malo said those directly involved in the shooting were McBride, Khun-Khun, Jones and a fourth man who is now dead. He wouldn’t provide the name, but The Sun has learned the fourth man was Manjinder Hairan, killed just last month in a Surrey shooting.

One of the arrested suspects was wounded in that shooting, too - Jujhar Singh Khun-Khun.
