Re: Foerster murder trial
This jury got it right. The twists, turns and lame reasoning presented by the defense in this case didn't fool them in the least. So gratifying to see this guy convicted and sentenced. I assume his father has yet to be held accountable for his actions?

Besides thanking the jury for their verdict, I also think it bears mentioning that it might have been very difficult to even identify Foerster as the killer if the previous sexual assault victims had not been brave enough to report and get his DNA and description into the system. For those who hesitate to report a sexual assaut, for whatever reason, I believe more killings have been prevented by getting this case to a verdict.

Re: Foerster murder trial
a very good day indeed !!! I hope today is the start of closure and healing for this Family..bravo to the Crown for knowing they had a solid case and not budging to make a deal and to the jury for their common sense...
also this monster has to be "eligible" for parole , so here's hoping his "stupid" comes out alot during his prison stay for the 25 yrs...I hope his father died a bit today himself...I also will feel happiness when this freak won't be there for his aging parents nor at their funerals when their time to pass comes...maybe he'll truly understand the same pain that he has caused this Family...

I'm relieved they found him guilty as charged. The guy is demented and... I just can't quite express the rest (well, not on here anyway).

All civilized nations, with the exception of some US states, treat prisoners humanely, not just Canada.
We can, however, hope that Mr. Foerster gets what he deserves in prison.

Re: Foerster murder trial
The system works 99% of the time.
This was a good verdict and the convicted will now be put away for 25+ years if not more and will be watched like a hawk if he ever gets out in his graying years. Society is safer but all around it's a sad day.
The girl should be alive and the guilty should have got help along time ago. There has been indications this was quite the "lead up" to the murder event. Instead of directing all the emotion to finding creative ways to insult the guilty person, people/government should be trying to prevent stuff like this from happening in the first place. This was no bolt of lightning from the sky. I'm not totally up to speed but a prostitute was beaten and his family/friends knew of something of his anger/emotional problems I believe? How about in school? Tests? Focus. We (society) can't be just burying the dead, getting rabid mad and "getting off" on caging people after the fact.
As well - Canadian's shouldn't be "relieved/surprised" that this was the verdict. Certain elements from certain media groups have created a entire questionable justice system thought process from thin air. Cherry picked. It should be surprising, and it is, when technicalities and other elements negate justice - but part of justice is following the rules and the principle that it's better that 10 people walk free than 1 innocent goes to jail for life.
Gain some confidence from this. Let's progress from this.

They have charged his father, his trial is coming up. I believe he is accused of being aware that his son murdered Taylor so hid him and arranged for him move to out of the province.
I also seem to remember hearing that his father arranged for the son to be with the escort, whom he is accused of assaulting. A coming of age thing? Did father cover that up too?
I hope the Van Diest family feel some justice has been achieved for Taylor. Hopefully they can now move forward and that there is no appeal.

Re: Foerster murder trial
On the news this evening, they will be airing the video confession of Foerster as it has been challenged through the courts.
Do you feel there is a need to sensationalize this sick individual's involvement or should it not be publicized ?
My thoughts are it works to the negative in society. It can also create further crimes as it gives other sick individuals a idea or a fantasy to live out.
I wish they would leave it in the courtroom truly!

I think if I were Taylor's family I would want to see this organism talking about killing her the least amount of times neccesary to bury himself in court, so, no, I dont think the news should air it out of respect for the family. That said, they may feel differently, I can only pretend to imagine how they feel.

I'm very sure it was shown in court, I believe the media reported on it. Sadly, there are other sick individuals that do not need to see this! Just my opinion as there have been many copy cat crimes, many shooting copycats.
For the average citizen, they won't miss the viewing if the media does not show it.
