Elk Herd
As I was driving into work this morning along Rte33, I passed a large elk herd walking single file through the field next to the road. There were about 30 animals, mostly female but many young males.
Does anyone know if this herd has a name?

Re: Elk Herd
Elk herds don't usually have "names".
How far out were you on Hwy 33? There are elk all over this area but just not in high concentrations.

Re: Elk Herd
I have heard of the "Greystokes" herd....
Can't say that I know if it's an elk herd or a deer herd though

There's also elk just north of the Tower Ranch subdivision.

That may be the same herd, it's a straight line of grazing from one location to the next.

They are part of the Little White/201 Route clan.
They move between Little White and the Big White area in the Greystokes every year.
Good to hear there are 30 of them now, with young ones.

Re: Elk Herd
We counted them one morning in late December in the big opening above hwy 33 just out of town. We counted over 50 at that time. In the next couple of days they moved across Mission Creek over to the openings (West Bank First Nations property) on the McCulloch Road.
From my observations the herd in the Greystokes moves into the Christian Valley area to winter. They along with the deer in the area migrate down to slopes above the Kettle River in Christian Valley about mid October.
Nice to see in any case.
