Interesting indeed, how the buyers got past the rule of caveat emptor with that many red flags is beyond me.

The two major inspection associations in Bc and Alberta have excellent standards of practice. The rest of the country is just trying to catch up. As usual, Ontario wants their new (copied) and improved(?) version to be the national standard. Ontario is the epicentre of lousy construction and inspections as Mike Holmes rants about constantly. Apparently, anyone can inspect and anyone with a hammer can be a contractor. In BC and Alberta, all inspectors must pass a series of exams, have proper insurance and be licensed by the government...we are the only ones in Canada.
