Phone Scam Warning (Microsoft)

Post by spiritualteachers »

A friend of mine ( a younger boy ) got a call from "microsoft" Asked for information which lead to asking for a credit card number. Most of us would clue in by now but of course if you have kids answering the phone not so much. After hanging up after they asked for the credit card they called back spewing some pretty hateful words.

Anyhow just thought I'd pop that out there to keep it in mind.

Yea I got a couple of those calls in the past ... when I kept the guy on the other line and he got all excited I told him to F-off.
That's when the so called supervisor got on the line and told me he knew where I lived and they had a long range missle aimed at my house and they were going to fire it. Boy was I scared. What a bunch of goofs. To bad they can't be tracked and hung out to dry by their finger nails and of course fingers - nail it each.

The "Microsoft" scam has been around for several years, I've had several calls per year from this one. Once the "computer" they detected with "problems" was actually in being serviced, so could not have been online. They still wouldn't accept that, they just try to bully people into whatever they are up to. When I have the time I try to waste theirs as much as possible. They haven't called back in quite a while so I guess they finally moved me from their "idiot" list, to their "don't bother" list.

I also get a few of these per year. Sometimes I like playing with them for a while: I'll pretend to follow their instructions but "screw up" at every step. This drives them nuts.

Some I tell I am on the other line with the police.

The fastest way to get them off of the phone is just to tell them that you have a Mac.

Give them one of those numbers. The AMEX cards don't sound as fake as the MC or VISA numbers. For those that don't know any better, these are testing numbers. They pass the validity test, but can't actually be billed. Make up your own expiry date and CCV numbers.

If you're a little more adept, you can try this:

I'd like to change your mind, but I don't have a fresh diaper.

I work in IT and wanted to have some fun on one of these calls. They were trying to get me to download something to share my screen, but I recognized the software as a legit screen-sharing tool I often used so I let them in and let them have control for a while. They looked at my process list and spouted off names of processes as being 'known viruses', then they went to try to download some fake cleanup tool. That's when I pressed the 'end sharing' hotkey to pause their mouse control. They'd ask me what happened, I'd say I don't know, and then I'd start sharing mouse control again. As soon as they moved the mouse again I'd end sharing. I must have done this a dozen times. Then my dinner was ready so I closed the tool and told them they should not be trying to scam people. They were silent so I started playing Bruce Campbell soundclips really loud until they hung up.

I strung them along for a while once than then told them I had a Mac. Called me a liar repeatedly and were trying to force me to log in. Yea, like that'll work.
So I love the Okanagan but it's a place best enjoyed from atop a very large pile of $100 bills. - Spocky

Ok I have had it with these guys and need help! They have been calling for years, however, yesterday morning they called at 7:03 am, then 7:13 am, then 7:22 am, and lastly that morning at 8:00 am! Then a Couple of more times later in the day. Then they started again today. I have documented all the phone numbers that show up on call display, every one of them being from NY!
Other calls from them have been from WA and Toronto. I have blasted them so many times! It is now becoming harassment, and there must be something one can do? It is always East Indians! If one follows through with their scam , you end up being asked to send the money via online transfer to India. I will try saying I have a Mac next time but somehow I don't think that is going to work. I didn't understand why they have not been stopped yet as it has been going on for many years. I have heard many stories of seniors falling for this and it makes my blood boil.
There was a site online you could report this abuse to, which I did, but obviously it did not help. It shows up unknown name but shows the number, I once thought a call was from them and ignored it, and it was from a specialist's office, a call I had been waiting for. Any suggestions?
I do have a few ideas, but none of them are legal lol

Its been a number of years since my last call from them, of course I did have some fun with that one.

To shorten a long story of dragging this scam caller around:

Once I finally got to my desktop and did what he asked turned it on of the usual crap he would ask.... then I said to him here we go I just have key in my password under an apple with chuck missing..... funny thing happened he hung up and I have never gotten call since... damn I was having so much fun to.

Added: its been at least 4 years now
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.
