So how is it that the city can build a road on land that is in the ALR? :200:

Well, word on the street they are converting some Glenmore sports fields to agriculture. So call it even.

The new road is going to be a great thing for a lot of people. I'm excited about it.

I do not know the case in point here, however private land and agricultural lands can have public easements across them for the purposes of future road. There are also other easements which can include irrigation, and utilities. Many easements were made prior to the ALR.

Looking forward to seeing shovels in the ground on this one. Been a long time coming. I would imagine there will soon be word on bus service along that route.

With the shifting of the bus route to John Hindle Drive, what will happen to the existing route that transports workers to Reids Corner from Glenmore, will they have to go to Orchard Park and then transfer to the 97 Express?

Perhaps the route will do a loop.

Closer than ever, cheaper than we thought:

A Surrey company appears to be the leading candidate for the extension of John Hindle Drive.

BD Hall Constructors Corp. came in with the lowest of the five bids which appeared on BC Bid. Their bid came in at slightly under $9.4 million.

The highest of the five bids was provided by Copcan Civil Ltd. out of Nanaimo, at just under $11 million.

Bids on the project closed Wednesday, however, the contract has not yet been officially awarded.

The bid is unverified

I was at the Dump yesterday and noticed that there were 2 large excavators stripping soil from the John Hindle Drive road alignment. It was also apparent that trucks were transporting the stripped earth to a stockpile. There were also numerous white PU trucks parked along the roadway. This to me has all the appearances of the start of construction of JHD.
Where is the grand announcement, the fanfare, the bugles the large white cake and balloons?
This is a big deal! The biggest deal since the Glenmore Bypass. No announcement? Too bad, a missed opportunity.

 Good bye more habitat and farmland. NO it does not cut through the park but it's naive to suggest the park and it's wildlife won't be further squeezed.

To naturalists who know better, it's habitat to many bird species, both migrating and living here.
Is it just a tiny bit possible that other living creatures deserve a home too, free of noise, light and other pollution?

We've photographed the many species of birds feeding, nesting and raising young there. You?

Right now Roberts Lake is teaming with bird life. Virtually undisturbed, but this new connector will destroy all that.

I hope they do some changes to reduce the volume as it is the highway and A$$holes try to do highway speed once they clear Ballou Road.

The speed limit change if monitored / enforced will also put vehicles back on the highway, instead of Glenmore.

Why not upgrade Glenmore instead of further congesting the highway? 97 is already overflowing, with much-needed upgrades out to Edwards being done, albeit too little too late.

6 lane 97 all the way to Winfield, and 4 lane Glenmore all the way to Winfield, too. The 97/Glenmore intersection realignment plan is sitting on the shelf collecting dust - time to get that done too.

Rwede this time we whole heartedly agree on something.

The fact is that the widening of Glenmore Road would involve the extensive filling of several wetlands along it's eastern edge as it is a steep hillside on the west edge of the road.
There is currently 10,000 vehicles per day using the Valley Road N Sexsmith Corridor to access Hwy 97 from Glenmore.
Many of these vehicle are accessing the Airport and UBCO thus adding many more vehicles to an already congested Hwy 97.
Diverting these vehicles to John Hindle Drive will take all this traffic off Hwy 97 as well as off Valley/Sexsmith.
As far as Robert Lake is concerned, JHD does not come within 100 m of the Lake, suggesting otherwise is spreading false information.

I was at the south end of Robert Lake, yesterday.. The lake is very high, with water pooled in the field, south of the private road.
You can see clear to the other side, the dump turnoff area. Steady traffic over there, not real noisy across the lake, the new road will get a bit closer to the lake, but like Grandan says, not right beside it. Good to see them get started..
Any widening of Glenmore Rd would mean infilling part of at least one wetland.
I'd like to help You OUT,
Which way did You come in??
