...I think for the most part, most people's homes are as secure as they can be within reason...and I agree 100% that at the root of the issue, are sentences that are grossly out of line with the crimes committed...

What about this scenario. A burglar breaks into a business or a home for that matter, and is attacked and seriously injured by a hundred and forty pound Rottweiler. Excessive use of force? The criminal was only there to steal some food? That dog could do a lot more damage than a .22 caliber handgun.

I agree that sentences need to be more strict.

At the end of the day, if someone breaks into my home and can get by my two dogs, their intent is very clear and it's time that I try and finish what my dogs could not get done... Having said that, good luck breaking into my house and getting past the dogs... Not everyone has dogs though..
