I understand what you are saying about people attempting to say that just because it is a remote area a person is more justified in speeding and using rape as a comparison.
Also since most people hit and injure or kill what they did NOT see can we ever declare that there is nothing of risk in the area, including animals, rocks, large potholes or even the ditches themselves ??

And 7 pages later here we are still arguing about where to lay the blame as opposed to how to prevent things like this happening.

In a free society THERE IS NO WAY TO PREVENT TRAGIC ACCIDENTS LIKE THIS FROM HAPPENING. Everyone has the right to do stupid irresponsible things over and over again. It is the nature of the beast.
The development of the thinking part of the human brain has not kept pace with being able to deal with the almost unlimited temptations that our society presents on a daily basis. Too many of us are still ruled by generations old emotion rather than more evolutionary developed intellect.

No you can stop it. Lock him up and throw away the key. You can start enforcing the law for one. How many 400 dollar speeding tickets are you gonna take just for the sake of it. We have developed a society with total contempt for the laws of the road and no respect for the other people who we share the road with. You want to stop it, enforce it.

correct, and if the info on this story is correct, a 21 year old is dead just because this guy wanted to speed on a public road

Very sad situation and completely preventable if people would just obey the law. Also sad that some of the folks on this particular thread are upset at the speeder who was the cause of this tragic accident, yet these same people have stated that speed doesn't kill and its ok to speed 10, 20, or more K's over the limit on other threads discussing speeding on our highways.
Speeding does kill and this is just one more incident that proves it. When are folks going to wake up.

Re: McCurdy fatal
Why doesn't the City put speed bumps on the road? 1 at the top, 1 near the bottom where the speed sign is, and 1 just before Craig Road.... Cars are going super fast both up & down McCurdy, & need to be forced to slow down, there is a crosswalk at McCurdy & Craig Road....

Re: McCurdy fatal
On a busy road and with a long line-up of traffic speed bumps slow the speed of the whole line-up of traffic to about 10 or 15 KPH. Which is the speed of he slowest vehicle crossing the speed bump itself. During rush hour it would cause serious line-ups.
Not to mention the number of rear enders caused by the sudden braking and acceleration. IMO speed bumps cause as many problems as they solve.

McCurdy Road is not super busy like Rutland Road.... Speed bumps are the answer to force people to slow down!!!!

I would pay for speed bumps to be installed on my road.

Re: McCurdy fatal
We already have vehicles that can read posted speed signs.
What would be the feasibility and/or advisability of having people that were caught for speeding "X" number of times install such devices on their vehicle AT THEIR EXPENSE and use fine money from speeding tickets to install electronically suitable speed signs within each municipality or city ??
If we wanted to get really technical, for blatant speeders we could install both a speed sign recording device and an accompanying recorder that electronically recorded the speed of the vehicle while in that speed zone. Something like a partial drivers licence or vehicle suspension.
Drastic measure ?? Yes, but so is a licence to drive at speeds that are dangerous and kill people.
