Same here. Too often these stories fall off the radar and we never hear what happened to the victims. Like the cyclist critically injured by a dump truck at Cadder & Pandosy. Whatever happened to her too?

A licence to drive, is basically a licence to kill and maim with impunity. Drivers enjoy the full protection of the 'law'*, and are only seldom punished, even when clearly at fault. Nor are the CEO's of GM, Ford etc, 'traffic engineers', car designers, and oil company executives ever charged for their crimes and complicity. Cars murder over 1.2 million people globally every single year, and 1/2 of those are not even drivers.

So castanet publishes this jaw-dropping bit of idiocy from someone called Martin Bell(who is he and why was he quoted?)

“These tragic events have inspired very different responses and strong emotions, we’ve seen a lot of finger pointing,” said Martin Bell, Urban Systems CEO, in a statement. “What we’d like to facilitate is a discussion about how we as a community want to share public roads, ensure safety, and treat one another. It’s not about whether cars or bikes are the problem, it’s about people and how we want to treat one another.”

There you go, problem solved. Cars aren't the problem(lol), but inconsiderate people are. Nice deflection and shameful writing for castanet for quoting such foolishness. Last time I looked, bikes were not responsible for over a million deaths annually, and are not listed as the 7th highest cause of preventable death worldwide. Indirectly, cars likely kill many times that once obesity, sedentary car-dependant lifestyles, and uS sponsored wars-for-oil are factored in. But again, in this guys alternate universe, its not about cars

Cars *are* the law.

I believe he passed away. RIP

I also think that if it's the accident I'm thinking of he ran a stop sign so not sure where 01066 is coming from.

This was not the stop sign guy. This was the fellow going to the store who was creamed by someone turning left.

This story was an absolute shock to me, the rider got hit on his bike, called his wife and said he needed help getting up.
He was taken to the hospital where he slipped into a coma, and that's the last we heard.

Bsuds, your thinking about the cyclist that ran the stop sign at Belgo and Springfield.

Funny how we heard a follow up to that guy's injuries, but nothing in regards to the guy who slipped into a coma.

Me thinks the news reporters need to get on the ball and start doing follow ups!

Maybe the family didn't want the situation to be made public after the initial story was published?

To 01066 ...

Not sure which "accident" you are talking about but I agree with one small part of your comment aimed at the people who make cars. I realize it is intentionally taken out of context.

" There you go, problem solved. Cars aren't the problem(lol), but inconsiderate (and inattentive) people are. "

Is this not the one where the mother published a picture of him in bed in the hospital and she was criticized for it? Didn't read back but I thought she posted here what the reason behind the decision was for doing so.

Maybe she could offer an update. I would think that if the worst happened that it would have been reported.

I just learned via FB that he's making progress, but that's all I feel is reasonable to divulge.

Thanks, Sige, I didn't pay attention enough to see that it was a GoGundMe share.
