Cyclist hit by car on Belgo & Springfield

Post by Hmmm »

Around 11 am today there was a cyclist lying on the road after being hit by a car on Belgo and Springfield. The ambulance was still a few minutes away after seeing this. Haven't seen anything on the news yet. Does anyone know how they are doing or what happened ? People were there trying to help in case anyone's wondering.

So there's a picture, that's good, it proves I'm not crazy, but what happened and how is the person? Anybody know?

CHBC reported that the cyclist didn't stop for the stop sign, and hit the car.

I do not know if this is correct information.

Apparently the cyclist has some head injuries.

I hope they are okay.

Yep, this would normally be the case when someone wasn't wearing a helmet (which is required under the law). Dumb A_s.

So this was a stated fact by police, that there was no helmet worn?

Because that poor woman doored by a car downtown this summer was wearing a helmet, and sadly did not survive.

As stated in the link above, it said he was NOT wearing a helmet. They don't always save you but definitely reduce injuries/death rates.

Aside from no helmet. According to report:

Cyclist ignored stop sign.

Thank you. There was no link when I'd asked my question (and I wasn't able to find the CHBC report).

Here's another one, happened today, breaking the rules and its SO easily preventable.

An SUV sat in the middle of Richter Street near Bernard Avenue this morning, with a crumpled bicycle underneath its front end.

Fortunately there were no injuries in the accident, despite the severe appearance of the accident scene.

The bicyclist was travelling the wrong way, south, on the sidewalk as the SUV was pulling out of a side driveway on the east side of Richter Street at approximately 10 a.m., according to Const. Grant Jacobson.

"She was coming out to turn right, she looked this way (left), and saw traffic was clear," Jacobson said.

The cyclist, who wasn't wearing a helmet, managed to jump off the bike before she was hit, avoiding injury.

Jacobson said the cyclist was "a little shaken up" but did not go to the hospital.

The east lane of Richter Street was closed as police waited for a truck to lift the SUV off the bike

I agree, completely. I also hope that both cyclists have learned a lesson; obey the rules of the road AND wear a freaking helmet.
