I was driving slow and have good winter tires . The intersection at Springfield turning onto Benvolin totally ICY , COME ON AND sand the intersections, have notice a lack of salt and Sand this year BIG TIME!!!!

I've noticed this as well, been debating about having studs added to my winter tires because of this unwillingness by the city to use sand (not gravel either, have enough rock chips due to some of provincial contractors).

Once you have used the tires, no matter how little, you can no longer
have studs added.
If you want studs, it needs to be with virgin new.

Kelowna is an absolute disgrace when it comes to dealing with snow. This P.O.S mayor and city council have that "it will melt attitude" and appear completely blind to what is happening on our streets when this amount of snow hits..........and it has happened for 3 years straight. You would figure they would have seen deficiencies in road clearing efforts in the recent past and MAYBE come up a slightly better approach. GordonH is absolutely correct in his post that Kelowna's snow clearing involves mostly moving it around and hope traffic packs it down. When you have time, take a drive up in Wilden and see for yourself what the road conditions are..........street width is 1/2 with nowhere to put the snow. They then want the sidewalks done up there and more snow gets pushed onto the road. I have driven through several newer areas and none compare to this snow clearing joke. A front end loader (not Bobcat) could clean up so much of this.........you do not even have to have a truck to haul it away, just dump the bucket at the end of Union or several available spots.
.............oh, what do you know............plow just came down the street with the blade UP............maybe texting and did not know. Probably one of our mayors skate-boarding buddies who got in on the snow clearing budget.

Once you've experienced driving with a top of the range studded tire, you'll shake your head and wonder why you didn't do this before. Years before. Then you'll get even madder at all the three season/bald tire geniuses around you.

I was born and raised on the Island . You know , the place that never gets snow and we count flowers in March ? .

When I first moved here , as Fancy says , they piled the snow down the middle of the road and trucked it out later. No one complained then .. Nor did I . I just adjusted as I thought that's how it's done here ..

But then I came on here and every year after year the moaning about snow removal seems to get worse..

Is this what could be described as "Millenialism " ? Sounds like it .

As you have found out, Kelowna is chock full of whining, snivelling, complainers*. Precious princes and princesses of the Okanagan.

* with a few valid exceptions.

Another winter wallop! May be delays getting plows to all local roads in West Kelowna. We will be back to clean up once we see a break in the weather. Please be patient and avoid parking on the road to aid snow removal.

This post confuses me. So you're in hiding until the snow stops or....

Here's the thing. Its no big secret the mayor doesn't want people to drive in kelowna anymore. very poor, or limited snow removal equals less vehicles on the road, which equals less flooding in the spring and less fires in the summer. Makes sense right?

If you're reading twitter it doesn't say that now.

Looks like some time after 5:30 this morning they plowed and sanded our street. Will head down in a few minutes to clean the ridge left on the street and the driveway for the 5th time in 24 hours. Street appears to have lost ANOTHER foot of width. Pretty soon the street won't be wide enough for the ploughs. I can see it now coming from our mayor and city council.........."it will be the property owners responsibility to clean and haul away the snow on the street in front of their house along with the sidewalk".

Looks like the plough got nice and low this time and sand is abundant for now but it is the one lane and no room to have two vehicles get by each other without one pulling into a pile of snow and stopping.

You're only responsible for maintaining the boulevard, sidewalks, clearing fire hydrants, sewers etc. The street is maintained by others that get paid for it.
