Bad drug warning

You're not going to "address the drug problem" by putting users/dealers in jail and throwing away the key. Prison sentences are only a deterrent for people who respect the law, or who believe they will get caught. Drug dealers are neither. They are already risking their lives to make the money they make; if that doesn't deter them, what will?

People become addicted because they're feeding an unmet need. That need is almost always based in trauma. Often in childhood but sometimes later in life. That's not a bleeding heart story, it's the truth. So if you want to end addiction, to reduce the market for illegal drugs, start there. Dysfunctional families and broken people are procreating, and their children often inherit their parents' troubles. That's where the problem begins. It's not as satisfying as just throwing them all in jail though is it?

While I agree that you have identified the main reason that gets young people initiated in drugs I believe there are an additional number of reasons that people become involved in drug taking to "ease the mental and physical pain" they have in their lives.

Kelowna is full of druggies and drug dealers, and this City needs to be cleaned up of this garbage once and for all.

I guess all the last 50 years of warnings about staying away from drugs hasn't helped a bit, seeing as there is such a high demand in our City.

Life is worth nothing to drug users or those who feel they need to experiment with this crap!
I guess the churches need to be more involved in drug use and start recruiting these fools to teach them what life is all about.
It appears that many don't have a clue of how life should be.

how about you put the safe injection site at YOUR church? Better yet, all of your fellow 'pewparkers' could help you to 'rid' Kelowna of this 'garbage'.......correct me if I am wrong, but did not Jesus preach compassion, understanding and helping your fellow man/woman?? It is Christmas after all.........just saying.

The announcement was made to let communities know where the money to set up the Safe Injection Sites is coming from.
