Re: Bad drug warning
You're not going to "address the drug problem" by putting users/dealers in jail and throwing away the key. Prison sentences are only a deterrent for people who respect the law, or who believe they will get caught. Drug dealers are neither. They are already risking their lives to make the money they make; if that doesn't deter them, what will?
People become addicted because they're feeding an unmet need. That need is almost always based in trauma. Often in childhood but sometimes later in life. That's not a bleeding heart story, it's the truth. So if you want to end addiction, to reduce the market for illegal drugs, start there. Dysfunctional families and broken people are procreating, and their children often inherit their parents' troubles. That's where the problem begins. It's not as satisfying as just throwing them all in jail though is it?

While I agree that you have identified the main reason that gets young people initiated in drugs I believe there are an additional number of reasons that people become involved in drug taking to "ease the mental and physical pain" they have in their lives.

How come bad people are always attached to bad drugs?
Here's yet another West Kelowna shooting and bust involving guns, illegal substances and more costs to the tax payers.
Paramedics
KGH
Police
Courts
Medical costs
All so that a few people can have illegal profits. Well I say take the profits away. Seize it all, proceeds of crime.

AND...sell their stuff, pay all the costs and anything left over, give it to the police for more officers.

Well, I don't feel sorry for any fools who use drugs, or feel that they need to try any for any purpose.
Kelowna is full of druggies and drug dealers, and this City needs to be cleaned up of this garbage once and for all.
I guess all the last 50 years of warnings about staying away from drugs hasn't helped a bit, seeing as there is such a high demand in our City.
People are so stupid.......
Life is worth nothing to drug users or those who feel they need to experiment with this crap!
I guess the churches need to be more involved in drug use and start recruiting these fools to teach them what life is all about.
It appears that many don't have a clue of how life should be.
how about you put the safe injection site at YOUR church? Better yet, all of your fellow 'pewparkers' could help you to 'rid' Kelowna of this 'garbage'.......correct me if I am wrong, but did not Jesus preach compassion, understanding and helping your fellow man/woman?? It is Christmas after all.........just saying.

So not only do we have a safe injection site debated for Kelowna, but we now have this:
Overdose prevention site?
Where are they putting that? And located next to what and there are too many questions that go with this.

Overdose Prevention Site, also known as Safe Injection Site.
The announcement was made to let communities know where the money to set up the Safe Injection Sites is coming from.

"will last for the duration of the opioid-related public health emergency." I guess this means forever?

"The sites will be run in partnership with the Living Positive Resource Centre." One must try to stay 'positive' while in the process of O.D. ( as in not 'living' )....
I guess this is the equivalent of what is referred to in retail as a 'pop-up shop'......
just in time for Christmas!!
