jamapple wrote:Yes, we all know how lovely the Queensway area can be. Just what we want prospective visitors to see first. Then, they'll just get back onto Harvey and skadattle out of town! I say put the new safe injection site there. Then, at least, it will be in close proximity to where the IV drug users are.
It boggles my mind how the business community always thinks if they don't put the tourist info booth right in the thick of things, or put a bypass, business would suffer. 2 fundamental mistakes. CV is right. Location needs to be where tourists enter town.
That is just what Kelowna needs right there. Get them high and then let them hang out on the walkways where your tourists are.
That I'm sorry is the stupidest comment I've heard so far about this topic. I do hope you are joking.
Currently they hang behind the metal box which might still be a bike rental by the old boat ramp. The POLICE, hello rarely come around there. They also sit on the park bench which was full of drunk low lives there, drinking and *bleep* where ever they found fit or not. That too is great for all the tourists!!
I one day heard a extremely drunk person trying to talk up a tourist and I thought, will they ever have stories to tell when they get home about what a great place Kelowna is to visit!

Is here.
Council needs to think this through with some logic.
I've already voiced my opinion several times concerning this well beyond
Castanet and get sidelined at every attempt to avert the huge mistake
that these.........people........have planned for an area that deserves much
more appreciation and consider what their main task at hand is, helping tourists.
This whole topic fires me up to no end!!!!!!
How many more council meetings do I need to take time off work to attend to
battle these glorified visionaries?
I'm with you on this topic. But how could they now turn around and say, just how stupid were we??? Then say "Dirtybiker" is right and we screwed up big time!

Unless you are one of the very local business folks in the area you're wasting your time.

That tourism kiosk at YLW is overflowing with people and long line up's to get maps. So much so that it justifies building a giant building on the best real estate Kelowna has to offer to serve as a giant pamphlet rack, stuffed with maps and business flyers.
Micheal J from Big White says we should use our real estate and tax dollars to make him more money. Get on it! We need more RV's with Mercedes Benz SUV's in tow downtown anyways.
It's not like people have access to information these days at a personal level.

Re: Tourism Kelowna - Queensway
My parents own a motorhome and tow a car. We used to take many RV vacations with them as kids. I remember them passing several tourism info centers by simply because they could not get into the parking area for several reasons:
1. Angle of the entrance was too steep so the back would bottom out.
2. No parking for RV's
3. Not enough room to turn around in the lot.
4. Not in an easily accessible location for the direction you were travelling...ie: on the right side of the road at the entrance to town. We wouldn't go off the main road through town to find a tourism center.
I'm just adding my two cents as a person who has travelled in an RV.
I used to work at the Penticton Visitor Center at the old location on Westminster Ave and we had the same problems...no parking for longer vehicles. I was the brunt of many angry visitors who had to park quite a distance away so they didn't get stuck in our tiny little parking lot. Once they moved it over to the current location at the corner of Railway and 97 it was completely visible from the highway.

There isn't a lot of parking on Leon.

Take a look on a map. I know what's down there.
Villa on one side, Park Place on the other, monthly lot and little on street parking. Where do you think the Tourist building should go?

I would expect huge signage on Harvey to indicate where Tourism will be - in both directions. If not, the City might lose out.

STOP trying to turn this into a "leon ave" issue. It's not and some of you continue to derail the thread with nonsense. I'm deleting them now.

You failed to detect my sarcasm about the "long lines" at the information kiosk at the airport.
