Yeah, they could direct visitors to ALL the best drug dealers within a 2 block radius.

Despite its detractors, Kelowna’s new tourism centre has been a smash hit.
The Kelowna Tourism Society announced Tuesday during its annual general meeting that the waterfront centre has attracted 108,000 visitors in its first six months of operation.
The goal was to attract 100,000 visitors per year.
“We are proud of our accomplishments and appreciative to have an amazing operational team and an engaged volunteer board made up of hard-working individuals, each representing different elements of our industry but all coming together for the best interests of the destination,” Tourism Kelowna chairperson Thom Killingsworth said in a press release.
The organization also announced that local tourist accommodation occupancy was up 1.3 per cent over the last year, despite the smoky summer skies.
Tourism Kelowna believes that was a result of it targeting new markets, including LGBT travel, culinary tourism and indigenous offerings, for authentic culture seekers.

I wonder how many of the 108,000 were locals curious to see where their tax dollars are going ?

Re: Tourism Kelowna - Queensway
Considering the old centre only received 20,000 visitors in its last year, 108,000 is still a substantial number even with locals checking it out.

Re: Tourism Kelowna - Queensway
On average 108,000 visitors = 9,000 visitors per month = 300 visitors per day. Ahhh … something doesn't add up. Unless of course Tourism Kelowna is including social media visits, phone calls, etc. and not direct human visits. But even at that 300 combined visitors, phone calls, emails, facebook, twitter, etc. awfully high numbers.
I may have missed it, did Tourism Kelowna advise how they were calculating these visitor numbers?

I would assume other means are calculated into the figure besides walk ins.has attracted 108,000 visitors in its first six months of operation

Just like the lack of transparency in the project its the same with the numbers. You don't think they will ever make it look anything less than successful?

Re: Tourism Kelowna - Queensway
I really don't see how 108,000 separate individuals entered the centre (the actual building) in a space of 6 months and I don't see any indication that a proper tally was conducted. Social media has nothing to do with the building itself.

Re: Tourism Kelowna - Queensway
108,000 / 180 days = 600/day
Maybe 50/day is realistic considering the only visitors I've seen over the past few months is from the Asian tour busses.
Serious lies ....now to figure out what the end game of the lies are for. Lobbying for a dedicated parkade possibly?

From an article on another site:
Are the bathrooms at Stuart Park invisble?
“Our visitor experience team does greet visitors to the building whose sole visit is to access the washroom facilities, an amenity in this area of downtown which did not exist prior to the visitor centre opening,” Tourism Kelowna representative Jennifer Widmer wrote in an email.

So how exactly do they greet visitors whose sole purpose is to use the washroom facilities? Do they ask if they are there for #1 or #2? Do they say welcome to Kelowna, please enjoy your #1 or #2? Do they offer to do wipe duties?
