I wonder if power outages during cold weather raises the birth rate. Perhaps we do not need immigrants. Just government control of the grid.

Sure it does. Look at all those big families on the prairies, especially before TV.

Power Outage

Post by monroe »

Looks to be an outage covering a pretty large area.

Fortass reporting 1600 customers out at the moment. Seems many more.

We're looking out over spring Valley, at the top of Springfield, south end of Dougall and everything dark. Power looks like it picks up again downtown.

Some light at blkmtn and Dilworth but everything else dark.

Just came through there. One of the large power poles on Springfield across from Mission Creek Park appears to be down. Police, fire and ambulances were there.

Power flashed off at 12:20 a.m. for a second, then back on.
Power went off from 1:24 until 5:27 a.m. here in Springvalley.

That makes sence. About 20 mins after the outage we're sat looking south over spring Valley when we saw bright white phosphorus like ball pop and disappear. My wife guessed towards spingfileld and leckie area but at the time was hard to tell.

I guess that explains the power pole. We figured a hot night, lots of a/c maybe an over loaded somthing or other...

Funny, from up here there were what looked like about 3-4 -people running around your neighbourhood with strong led lights playing hide and go-seek ... or somthing.

Eerie.

ETA: or a mugging victim being chased down - but the kid in me will assume the former.

Eerie. Perfect description for what would seem like an inocuous drive made literally hundreds of times. There's just something about built up areas in the dark.

My wife and were chatting at the time about the (seemingly) fine line between the order that simple street lighting can provide vs total anarchy. :panic:

Lol - that's usually the train of thought I experience shortly after zipping up inside my tent in the middle of nowhere - and the crack of a twig can seem almost deafening.

Power is back, Fortis fixed it (thanks), and the reason for outage is still “unknown”. Like, we know what we did to fix it, don’t we?
