Bees millions of bees

Spent part of yesterday working in the mountains. Came around a corner and was stunned at a sound I have never heard before.
A weird droning sound.
No machines where I was.
No aircraft above my head.
Just a winter storage for bee hives.
The sun had came out and I was surrounded by clouds of bees.
Never have I seen or felt something so wild.
I was wearing a hi vis vest and had just eaten an orange.
While kneeling down to set a nail they covered my hands and my vest.
Guess I looked and smelt like a flower.
It was amazing.
Went back today and saw so many dead bees that did`nt make it back to the hives when it cooled off.
Never going to forget this one.

There was a Facebook or Instagram post I recently saw informing people what to do and who to call locally, as encounters such as yours are common right now as bees emerge from winter and are looking to set a new nest. I'll take another look for it. Glad you had the wherewithal to remain cool - would have been pretty neat. I don't know if I could have had your same composure. :)

They were so docile and just waking up to the sun.
I`m back there next week for 3-4 days and am looking forward to experiencing it again and again.

I think it's at something like 17 or 18'degrees where they all of a sudden become active. Pretty cool little guys to watch.

Bee's fly at 10C. My bee's will leave their hives at 8C if it's sunny.

Be careful - bee's are very docile right now but a wrong move can quickly turn those bee's against you. Don't get cocky kid.

I had to re-read your post a few times before I clued in that you were close to a winter storage yard. I believe I know who those bee's belong too. I thought at first you stumbled across a feral hive.

I`m sure not getting as close as I was this week.
With it warming up I`m keeping my distance.
Got real lucky to experience it up close.
Now I get to go into bear den territory.
Went and bought spray, an airhorn and sharpening the machete tomorro.

My bees haven't come out yet, it's still too chilly in Joe Rich for flying, but they are coming to the

entrance to catch a breath of fresh air and have a look see around. Won't be long!
