Re: Time to take the foreshore back
And who gets to clean up the garbage and damage after all those thousands of visitors? The homeowners. There are beaches and walkways for visitors and private docks aren't playgrounds for diving off - yes you'll get all sorts of fools and idiots and homeowners become liable. I can understand why they've done what they've done. Others in the same predicament complain about partygoers and dangerous situations but never get the help from authorities which they should.
Truths can be backed up by facts - do you have any?

And here's the disrespect that is so often shown when people just want to enjoy their own backyard. Everyone is entitled to enjoy their home and so many laws are put into place to ensure that happens but, unfortunately, quite often not upheld.

I am just amazed that there has not been a lawsuit from one of these illegal docks or obstructions ( that we know of) that sets a new tone for all of this.
The city can install garbage cans along the way, no different than any other houses bordering public land.
Kelowna is a very congested, overcrowded city that will need more walkways and space in the coming years as the population continues to get out of control.
If the party goers are that much of an issue and the cops don't deal with it, live with it or move.

When your backyard borders public land and water that's a choice you make when buying.
Assuming that it will remain private and as good as yours forever and there will never be change is foolish.

When backyards are used as toilets and garbage cans by those very people who use public lands, that seems to be when howeowners have to do what's necessary to stop the behaviour.fall wrote:When your backyard borders public land and water that's a choice you make when buying.

Re: Time to take the foreshore back
High water mark to define foreshore isn't going to be this year's episode. Those that are thumbing their noses at the homeowners that have lost so much might consider it will be a long time before any of the foreshore can be restored or revert back to its natural state.

Why do I not think it legally works that way?

As Kelowna continues to grow it is inevitable that people will be utilizing the foreshore.
Unfortunately lakefront homeowners are not above the law.

It's not city property.

Kelowna is a big, small city.
Sadly you can't change where your property is or the size of it and may have no choice but to move if you are that affected by people bothering you.

I am sure the city would maintain it, like every other beach access point here and anywhere else.
