I think all the Kelowna rabbits were former pets? Do we have wild rabbits historically?

Yes raptor birds are definitly an issue for cats outdoors. My neighbor once told me about an owl nest, it was discovered 21 cats tails in it. My daughter told me she watched an owl swoop down to her cat at her place. One of my friends heard her cat being caught by a pack of coyotes. All these things considered, I can't imagine why people let thier cats roam free. Nevermind the issues we have from other humans, a few years back with the cat mutilations in the Okanagan.

Knowing that we have the coyote issues, perhaps public esucation on food sources, including pets, is wise. If we could limit food sources for predators in our neighborhoods to mainly other pests, like rats, could be useful. And also maybe reduce temptation for the coyotes to come here in the first place.

Lots of wild rabbits on the KVR right now. Swarming
I have learned that to be with those I like is enough.

Anything on the KVR would be snowshoe hare and not rabbits.

For the most part.
I have however seen some domestic rabbits up there. Two years ago now, so maybe all "eradicated" but not sure.

People like to dump pets when they can't handle responsibility.
It's a damned shame.

That is quite possible that they were feral rabbits but think they would not survive the winter there.

And who started THAT problem folks?

You can bet irresponsible and uneducated people will start complaining that 'something needs to be done' and

a coyote hunt will be on.

No it won't

That is real interesting. I guess they have encountered humans so often that they are just used to us. Sad, they will likely be disposed of as they become a larger pack and more problematic.

Naturally I had to investigate "hasenpfeffer" and get the background for the recipe too.
Interesting stuff, may go back to the 1300s?

They have been around for a long time now and there has not been any indication of a cull on the horizon. Seems to me it would be unwise if we are saying they work to keep the rat population down. Coyotes have been on elementry school playgrounds in Rutland during school times and not a thing was done.

Oh Jflem, it's too pretty a morning to be speaking of gunning and killings.

Perhaps we should contemplate taming these wayward creatures of God and

commiserate turning them into warm cuddly house pets?
