Stuck In Lake

Probably the worst spot to video from of a tow truck working. Should that cable have snapped, and it does happen - it's the equivalent of a guilotine flying towards the truck. Surprised the operator permitted your videographer to stand there.

They don't even realize the potential danger here.

This "news" blurb is not worth the potential for being killed...

Mind the bight and watch for snapback. I learned about these danger zones while working as a boom man in the logging industry.

I saw no evidence that he was in any danger.
He coulda been 300 feet away.

The initial story I posted on had no information other than it was Castanet Raw Video. The fact it was a 9 year old permitted to be in that position reinforces my stand - shouldn't have been in that position as a child or adult.

Bman - the camera is clearly moving meaning it's being hand held - and whoever was holding it simply shouldn't have been there.

It's not that big of a deal, I watched two D8 Cats double winch our derrick onto the sub in some slick conditions. Cable snapped and it was actually way less thrilling than expected.
Sure do love Rutland!!

Not exactly what I would call Being in the bright of the line !
When we were setting chokers, we rarely got that far back , before the winch was given the snoose..

So what if the camera was hand held? It could still be hundreds of feet away.
I assume if the person was hundreds of feet away, they'd be safe from a 50 ft cable.

You have no more clue where the photographer was than I or anyone else does.

Only when the cable actually breaks & kills or seriously injured someone. Will those involved learn anything.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.

Not getting into yet another frivolous *bleep* match with you. From the perspective of the video, it was clearly taken right beside the truck - but feel free to conjure up any hypothetical scenario you wish.

Nor am I interested in debating video distances with you.
But I coulda took that vid from 200 feet away and you wouldn't know the diff.
You still using a brownie hawkeye or what?

Mind ya, since you are always right about absolutely everything and everyone else is always wrong, I'll concede to you.
Lol.
I never realized you are a photography expert too.

The video's audio also suggests the camera was in close proximity to the tow vehicle. You would never pick up the fine hum of the winch and it's cable tautening from a distance 200-300 feet away.

Although the driver likely assessed the situation and decided only a short light pull would be required he should have removed all bystanders. That includes the beach equipment operator who is also at risk. He is directly in-line with the cable. As the video clearly illustrates the pull required was minimal and short lived. Attach points are more likely to fail than the cable. If the tow operator has seen this thread I'm sure he's having a good laugh.
Someone has to say it.
