Time to cull Okanaganites that complain about wildlife

Post by A_Britishcolumbian »

this article makes me sick.
people complaining about the deer. what's next, complaining about the flowers and the sunshine?

why does no one seem to complain about the invasive rats?
where are the demands for action against the invasive grey squirrels?
where are the bylaw officers with traps for the feral cats?

deer are indigenous to kelowna, they belong here, and i prefer their presence much more than those awful people that would disparage them.

focus on ridding the valley of invasives, and let nature balance the other populations.

Kelowna residents urge city to cull urban deer
City received an average of 5 to 10 complaints each year until 2016, when it fielded 29
By Alex Migdal, CBC News Posted: Jul 31, 2017 2:51 PM PT

Residents in Kelowna's Upper Mission neighbourhood are urging the city to cull a deer population they say has become a nuisance and affected their livelihoods.

More than 1,000 signatures have been collected in a petition calling on the city to introduce a deer management program.

Karin Arkinstall hasn't signed the petition, but agrees the city needs to intervene.

But the City of Kelowna won't yet say whether it will try to curb the animals.

"Once we've gathered all the information and received this so-called position, we can properly assess our position," said Blair Stewart, the city's park services manager.

Whether Kelowna's deer population has increased is unknown, Stewart said. But complaints have recently spiked.

The city received an average of five to 10 complaints each year until 2016, when it fielded 29. This year, 25 complaints have been made so far.

I'm not worried what I say, if they see it now or they see it later, I said it. If you don't know maybe that would hurt you, I don't know. You should know though, so you don't get hurt, so you know what side to be on when it happens.

I second your opinion.

Certain human beings are far too selfish to share their habitat with anything from wild life to homeless humans.

It is due time for many so-called human beings to be culled.

I would think this has more to do with the balance in the overall ecosystem than simply deer breeding like rabbits. I agree with the city not acting on this as I would hope the bigger picture is taken into consideration. I'm no biologist, and I'm sure a well-seasoned hunter would have better/more insight into the cause and effect of what seems to be a blossoming deer population. Natural predators must be down to allow the deer population to flourish, but then what resulted in the predator population declining - and so on. Such is the food chain.

I'm no wildlife expert but perhaps the reason there are too many deer is the lack of predators. Perhaps there are not enough predators is because of human interference

Complaining idiots. City morons.

Deer do not put people's livelihoods at risk. Idiots do.

I've seen a convoy of work trucks approaching deer. I tried to slow them by flashing my lights and putting four ways on.

Nope. Idiots just kept coming fast with deer in the long grass by the roadside and fawns there, too. Can't fix morons.

Just put a meat tenderizer on the front of your truck, learn to hunt or hunt more.
By Xmas you can fill your belly - makes a great gift to those in need of meat.

theres got to be a herd of 10 or more deer in my neighborhood. i see them right before dark and later in the year in the morning too, they go between the hillside and down to the creek.they arent bothering anyone, its cool to see. its cool to see the bucks as they grow.its cool to see the little ones every year.once in a while one gets smacked on the road. it is part of life.i like the deer.i like them more than i like my nieghbors .i live on the edge of town and accept it as part of life that deer and coyotes live here too.if you dont like deer then move into a walled village in glenmore and never go outside of your safe space again

Having over a dozen deer in your front yard isn't normal in the area in question.
