Wasting water in Kelowna

Post by hogwild2 »

Talking about wasting water...in my travels to work in the early am, I see way too many places wasting water. Water is running down the street, sidewalks and parts of the road are nicely washed. The Macs on the corner of Rutland road and McCurdy has the sprinkler going every morning and one of the nozzle heads is broken and it just dumps water on the sidewalk and flows down the street. Come on do our part and conserve.

What did the owner's say when you told them about their broken head?

Also when it comes to underground sprinklers alot of people will see water spraying onto or draining off onto a road, sidewalk, or a storm drain because in some cases the sprinkler head has to overlap a portion of the sidewalk or road to hit the grass. Usually on a curve or jut-out.

I have seen Sports fields in the Mission being watered when it's *bleep* down rain.

They are getting a new irrigation system installed so I hope it has rain sensors.

Is there a water shortage crisis I don't know about?

You haven't heard? Even numbered homes you can only shower/bathe on even days and odd #'s on odd days.

Bylaw officers will be looking in yer bathroom window to make sure you comply.

Do what I do - complete your business as you shower. No need to flush at all!

If it's yellow? Let it mellow.
If it's brown? Flush it down.

I fill my bathtub right to the top and then use that for two weeks. Dishes, drinking water, bathing. Works like a charm, don't have to turn the tap on for two weeks.

I remember that sprinkler head being broken when I moved away from that neighborhood three years ago. It seems the owners simply don't care about wasting water.
