Last night my girlfriend and I were out for a walk around 10 PM and saw an incredibly bright teal light to the south. We were on Black Mountain. I cannot explain how bright this light was, we're talking lightning but only to the south and it was in the clouds. I saw it at first, spun my girlfriend around who saw the tail end of it. About 5 seconds later it flashed again but never after that. Suffice to say it was confusing.

Would love to know what it was.

I saw it too. I am in East Kelowna, and I saw it looking towards Black Mountain. I thought it was lightning as well. I asked my wife to come outside, and we stood out there for minutes waiting for another flash, but nothing.

I'm so happy to read your post StraitTalk. I also saw the teal blue flashes last week. I was south of Orchard Park looking toward South East Kelowna. There were 3 flashes, the second lasting the longest, about 5 or 6 seconds. The light was strong and spread out across the low sky. Not lightning, I don't think fireworks...it was the most beautiful color! But what the heck was it? Anybody know anything?

That was no meteor.. it was several separate flashes spanning 10+ seconds.

That’s what meteors do - kinda like a rock skipping over a lake. Once it fragments, those can flash as they burn up as well.

I suggest that it was a meteor breaking up and forming smaller ones as it entered the atmosphere. (One big mother, followed by her babies, kind of analogy.)

I know exactly what you mean, but am super confident that's not what we saw here.

I saw it too, shovelling my back porch on black mountain, but to confuse things further, the porch lights dimmed each time it flashed...I had figured someone maybe took out a power pole or transformer? Bad roads that night. It happened at 10:07pm. I saw it over some houses so I couldn't see how low it went.
