Site C hearing in Kelowna

Post by masen »

The transcript from the hearing will be posted in a couple of days. This was a very interesting hearing as many biologists, interested people who have visited the area spoke. From the numerous people who spoke on it, we don't need any more power as not only has conservation decreased the need but other sources of power like IPP's are now being utilized. Also 2 large LNG plants have been cancelled so the electricity is no longer needed for them. The BC Fruit Growers have come out strongly against it, all 550 growers passed a resolution. A local new energy expert Jeane Manning spoke about many new sources of power giving a few examples like Brilliant Power. This dam would change the climate in that area making it cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Wheat may no longer be able to grow there, and we might be stuck with turnips and potatoes. It would thus change the bird, animal vegetation etc. Dams also stagnate the water because it is not moving, everything that doesn't move dies. [yes, even us] As brought up by Glen Lucas, the Columbia River Treaty allows us to take power instead of cash so that is another reserve waiting to be used. The beautiful farmland which will be flooded may be needed in the future as California crops may dry up and die from lack of water. Nutrients in the water, trapped by the dam will no longer feed the river downstream. One speaker asked about modernizing the generators and adding more penstocks as a way to increase the electricity. This is a huge dam, electricity from it will mostly go to large industry especially in the US at a reduced rate. Harry Swain, the chairman of the 2014 review said that 7 of the 9 Billion dollar cost will be lost to the residents of BC and put our taxes and electricity costs way up.

I've been following Brilliant Power (formly BlackLight Power) for about 10 years, and it is a known scam. I can't believe anyone is using them as an example of the future of energy production!!!! Randell Mills has been promising a working prototype for many years. He still manages to suck in investors!!

"Local new energy expert" - should we add "self-proclaimed" to the beginning of that title? A very questionable source as it's completely lacking in any credible basis other than theory. Too bad that could take away from legitimate concerns with Site C.

Critics say it lacks corroborating scientific evidence, and is a relic of cold fusion. Critical analysis of the claims have been published in the peer reviewed journals Physics Letters A, New Journal of Physics, Journal of Applied Physics, and Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics on the basis that Quantum Mechanics is valid, and that the proposed hydrino states are unphysical and incompatible with key equations of Quantum Mechanics.[6]

In 2009, IEEE Spectrum magazine characterized it as a "loser" technology because "most experts don't believe such lower states exist, and they say the experiments don't present convincing evidence" and mentioned that Wolfgang Ketterle had said the claims are "nonsense".[7] BLP has announced several times that it was about to deliver commercial products based on Mill's theories but has not delivered a working product.[7]
