If you've got junk to get rid of, and you think it has value so don't want it tossed:
Do NOT place a FREE sign on it.
That just advertises it's value to you.. It's junk.
Place a price on the articles.
If you put a price on the sign, someone will see the value you have placed upon the articles, and they will then steal them.
Nobody wants your junk.
Thieves want your valuables.

Best way to get rid of your trash in less than an hour.

$75.00 mattress
$50.00 couch and chair
$100.00 fridge
$65.00 stove

all stolen in less than an hour

I've found that people keep their best free stuff in their backyard. Got a real nice patio set the other day.

I wonder who benefitted from my lack of advertising.

Easier way for bulk item(s) pickup - no need to store until a designated date.

The City will pick up large items (appliances, furniture, carpets, etc.) on your garbage collection day (not on your recycling day) from the curbside. Effective January 1, 2017, an approved small annual fee of $8.00 will appear on your Utility Bill, to recover the service delivery costs of providing collection of oversized and metal items regardless of whether the service is used. List of acceptable items in link.

Bulky Items, such as toilets, sofas, chairs and mattresses are counted towards your 3 item garbage limit and are collected on your designated garbage collection day. List of acceptable items in link.
