This craft will likely run the same fate as many houseboats that limped their way to that general area, only to be left to break up along the shoreline further contaminating our environment. One of these days, the mayors of the valley municipalities need to take action on this as a group representing the interests of all residents of the valley and get some clear and simple means put into effect on who and how this issue can be dealt with in the future, whether it be municipal, provincial, federal or a combination of all the above. It's an absolute disgrace that vessels such as this are free to simply flounder in the waters abandoned by both owner and municipal responsibility to become just another pile of garbage polluting the main source of water that each and every resident of this valley depends on. Shameful.

Not sure what the content of this BILL is although I did contact the MLA who spear headed it and thanked her. I also asked if not too late I do hope there is something in it to deal with boats such as this and the number of others on this lake in hopes of making the owner financially responsible for clean up!

Either way, just so were on the same page, what is the correct name for a cigarette boat smarty pants?

This is a "Cigarette" boat, http://www.cigaretteracing.com/eng/index.php.

These are NOT "Cigarette" boats,

http://eliminatorboat.com
https://fountainpowerboats.com
http://dcbperformanceboats.com
http://marinetechnologyinc.com
http://www.outerlimitspowerboats.com
http://www.skaterpowerboats.com
http://www.hustlerspeedboats.net/speedwear/index.php
http://www.nordicboatsusa.com

Acceptable would be "Offshore Powerboat",
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offshor ... oat_racing

Also "Go Fast Boat", https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go-fast_boat

We don't call all snowmobiles "Ski Doo's" or all 4 Wheel Drive vehicles "Jeeps". If we do, we show a blatant lack of knowledge towards said product......

Potato/potawto. It's been common knowledge for some time now this style of boat is commonly referred to as a "cigarette" boat, regardless of the actual name meaning.

From Wikipedia:
A go-fast boat is a small, fast boat designed with a long narrow platform and a planing hull to enable it to reach high speeds.

During the era of Prohibition in the United States, these boats joined the ranks of "rum-runners" transferring illegal liquor from larger vessels waiting outside U.S. territorial waters to the mainland. The high speed of such craft enabled them to avoid interception by the Coast Guard. More recently the term "cigarette boat" has replaced the term "rum-runner". The present era of cigarette boats, dating from the 1960s, owes much of their design to boats designed for offshore powerboat racing, particularly by designer and builder Donald Aronow. Aronow was an American designer, builder and racer of the famous Magnum Marine, Cary, Cigarette, Donzi, and Formula speedboats. During this period, these boats were used by drug smugglers to transfer drugs across the Caribbean to the United States.

All irrelevant, as it was apparently actually a cabin cruiser :)

As irrelevant as it is, it still draws the ire of owners of million dollar boats.
Walk through the Miami Boat Show and refer to all the boats as "Cigarette" boats.
Even Don Arranow would roll his eyes if he were alive today.
Nothing personal to anyone, but I can't take anyone seriously when they throw the term around when discussing boats.

I actually googled the term and came up with the brand name but this term was used back in the '60's.

Well, this isn't Miami, and most people could give a flying fart at drawing the ire of wealthy elite getting the name of their million dollar boats wrong. Don Aronow (if nothing else he'd surely appreciate your spelling his name right) would probably be tickled pink knowing his boat designs single-handedly changed the way these off shore boats are viewed by the general public, and that they are collectively referred as such after one of his own designs. Nothing personal - but no one cares.

Richard Bertram pioneered the sport long before Don Aronow came along. Not withstanding Don's marketing abilities and business acumen (both legal and illegal), but I stand by what I said.
Referring them all to "Cigarettes" doesn't make you an expert, it's a term used by those who know nothing about boats but like to sit around the Eldorado and talk like they do......

I've got 5 pounds of fiberglass resin and matting.

Where can I buy this boat for cheap?

Cheers,

Half Full Glass (and Half Sunk Boat)

I'd suggest pulling it out of the lake and the owner likely won't want it. Go for it! Likely not insured, I'd stop by the RCMP office and ask can it be salvaged, you then will have a winter project!! Good luck act quickly!
