Cutting weeds by the road side

I am from the prairies where the municipalities keep the roadsides and ditches cut. I cant get over the mess we let grow out here. You would think just for the fire hazard alone this would be done. Lake Country

Because our government is too busy installing free wifi on the KVR (middle of the bush in no-mans land) and doing other silly little projects there is no money left for maintence.

I suspect the lack of regular cutting of roadside grass could be due to amount spark created by hitting unseen metal object & rocks.
With the very dry conditions, sparks & dry grass = grass fire pretty quickly.

There are a number of reasons,not least of which is the availability of machinery to do the job. Farmers can contract out their equipment for extra money, less of the mowers used here. Also there are more crops on the ground on the prairie where weed contamination and spraying would be an issue. The contamination of weeds in orchards and vineyards is not so much of a problem. Apples and grapes don't come close to the ground so don't get mixed with weeds. The prairie town tax structure may also factor into the eradication of roadside weeds. Prairie roads tend to be much more regular than the Okanagan where there are cuts and fills plus steep drop offs that make it much more difficult to mow.

So you feel MOT should have had the contractors take there chances & cut roadsides anyway.
Your right whats few more fires going to harm anyway.

We used "inmates" to help with the fires this year, there should be much more they could do for their "allowance".
