Re: No MLA
Thought one liberal bashing thread would be enough, what gives?

In fairness, we have many partisans on both sides bashing both parties without any reasonable and measured approach.

Re: No MLA
I got this pet peeve that this articles highlights well. A couple months ago i read a book called "The Unbroken Machine" by Dale Smith (2017) and it argues that Canada's democracy is not broken, but our understanding of it really is. It was a recommended book @ Mosaics and I would recommend it to anyone as its not too long a read. I especially would recommend it to our soon to be MLA in this article.
https://www.dundurn.com/books/Unbroken-Machine
It argues that we all tend to think we are just a few fixes away (Proportional Representation, Finance Reform etc.) from achieving a perfect system when in reality our problem is a lack of civic literacy that has developed over time and spans all the way from the average voter to the very people in office.
One example he mentioned in the book is that MLAs/MPs seem to think, for whatever reason, that their job is to provide customer service to their constituents or play the "ombudsman role". From the article...
"We are looking to helping people out, that's what the job of the MLA is, so In the absence of having a byelection, I'm here."
Mr. Stewart, unless I am mistaken, the job of an MLA is to create policy, debate legislation, and most importantly hold the government to account by controlling supply (aka "controlling the purse"). We already have people that take care of the interactions between residents and the government. They are the called civil service and they do a heck of a job. The more time MLAs try to do their job rather than their own, the less our system functions.

Khutchi, I like that, "lack of civic literacy."
Seems it's about time to review or re-educate or just plain educate.
Truth.
But ooohh God Verum, don't speak the Truth.
I see pitchforks and torches...

Re: No MLA
In reality, the NDP isn't interested in holding a by-election for the Westside as that would mean 1 more Liberal in the Legislature!

Grow up MJ ...
It's not about " who" or "what" but more of the strategy as to "why " and "when" ....
Mkay ????
That makes exactly zero sense in the context of this thread.
Try laying the bong aside for half an hour.
I know , right ??
Always needs to find someone to vilify ......
