When I was growing up in the age of the dinosaurs roaming the earth we didn't (read never) locked the house when we went out or our vehicles overnight. As time marched on and things changed, we locked the house and never left anything of value in our vehicles and made sure it was locked when not being used.

Of course it's the criminal's fault - which is why they are called criminals. But good luck getting your stuff back and getting satisfaction through the courts. Most people keep their money in a bank instead of in their home for a reason. Victims don't get a free ride if they're doing it wrong. Court decisions have also made that abundantly clear.

First the criminals have to get caught, then they have to go through the court process. Why not make it harder for the criminals - protect your valuables.

*removed* Criminals get an adrenaline boost no different than a base jumper, gambler, or any other thrill seeker. In the criminal’s case, the only thing that feeds their need for excitement is the thrill of the steal. And their primary issue is they are friggin lazy and looking for a quick buck and the easy life with not effort. What we need is better laws to convince any thief that getting caught will be the worst day of their life, and the consequences so dire, they won’t do it again or better yet, not do it in the first place. What that looks like is for another debate.

What's needed in an area that has been victimized over and over is when one of the thieves gets caught by "someone"........and an excruciating and life changing beating is applied to them. This has to happen several times in these areas so that the next ers may wonder what could await them............never mind being caught by the police and having to ordeal an afternoon in court.

Get a restricted firearms certificate, buy a 9mm handgun, and learn how to use it. Then, if you catch one of these scumbags on your property messing with your stuff, aim low and unload your weapon into his/her legs and feet. That will end their criminal ways right then and there.

There are other ways to go about trying to make our city safer without necessarily adding more to the city's RCMP budget. They can revisit this decision after a provincial review has taken place.
