West Kelowna Wine Trail Phase 2

Finally council has approved Phase 2 of the Boucherie Road Wine Trail project. Boucherie Road is the most heavily travelled municipal road in the city and it is a death trap for pedestrians and cyclists alike. I am also pleased to see both roundabouts at Hudson and Anders. It not only allows for efficient traffic flow at those intersections, but also slows traffic on Boucherie.

I am really disappointed though that access to both Skyline and Stevenson will be kept. Boucherie Road is no place for excessive intersections and will be hazardous as traffic flow increases over the years. There just is not enough forward thinking going on with City Council.

I cannot believe that two roundabouts are to be built on Boucherie Rd. Not even on a level area of the road. There are so many cars taking a short cut up Hudson that I can see more accidents coming in the future; more cars getting stuck on this section of the road than even the first phase. I will not drive my bike on phase 1, too dangerous.

Look what happened on phase 1 on Dec 3rd. car in ditch and 4 more stuck, which resulted in the road being closed. I agree that the road needs to be paved and improved, but at this inflated price? We have lived in the area for 37 years and the road is getting busier every year.

It will continue to get busier no matter what. More infill development and sub-division of bigger properties. Won't be long to see more stacked townhomes in Lakeview Heights and along Boucherie. Curbs and gutters, sidewalks, roundabouts and increased capacity of water and sewer mains are critical. West Kelowna is no longer semi-urban (or country residential) nor should it be from a (wasteful) land use perspective.

Next will be roundabouts at Ogden, Sunnyside, Gregory Road and Mission Hill Road in Phases 3 and 4 of the Boucherie re-build.
