900 City of Kelowna Employees
If this wasn't so obscene, it would be funny! Perhaps it will spike transit usage???

What's obscene about hiring 39 new employees to fill positions?
Other new city jobs this year include 12 firefighters, four data processors at the police detachment, a senior buyer, an energy specialist charged with reducing the city’s greenhouse-gas emissions, a bylaw officer, a manager to oversee the homeless reduction strategy, a secretary at the police station, conversion of a communications position from part time to full time, and two new airport employees.
I don't see an issue hiring more firefighters, data processors or secretaries etc.
Truths can be backed up by facts - do you have any?

Because it is tied directly to property tax......... for ever and ever! A little (lot) belt tightening is in order for our fiscally irresponsible mayor, council and administration!

Two RCMP will be hired as well. The bigger the city, the more employees required - just makes sense. Seems understaffed compared to other similar sized cities.

Every time a new development is built or a new house, business etc the tax revenue for the city increases.
When it grows to a certain point then more employees are needed to cover the increased work load.
Hopefully the Mayor and Council try to keep it to a minimum but they can't stop progress.
If you are against growth and want to stop it then maybe run for office and see how far you get.

Making the city staff 0.7% of the city population. Doesn't seem crazy to me if you consider the amount of services and responsibilities the city has to cover.

How about this angle;
Each new employee in the big machine of the civil service pays taxes themselves,
also contributing to their own wage.
Another thought;
If everyone worked for the Government...Local, Regional, Provincial, Federal..
Where would the monies come from ?

Some of these employees would be paying taxes to another city.

Got any statistics relative to the working population? Statistics tied to revenue compared to non-government business? I'm betting in these two regards the city won't look so good.

Is there a reason why you cannot figure it out yourself? Why do you require someone else to confirm your hypothesis?
Regardless, the correct question you SHOULD be asking is, how does this statistic compare to another City of the same size?

Well they could live anywhere within a reasonable drive. West Kelowna, Lake Country or even Vernon which would mean that's where they would be paying taxes.

Not aware of the bridge and the traffic flow heading into Kelowna every morning from West Kelowna, Peachland and Summerland?

Property taxes. Right.
Not really sure of the relevance or what difference it makes, to be honest.
X number of bods to service a city. Hard to use that as an accurate base to gauge service or quality. Benchmark it against other cities. Some may use more or less contractors/outsourced labour. $ budget and per capita cost is useful.
Is the service good? Effective?
