More like some of these employees would be renting ...

Good luck being able to afford a house on 55g / year. I am by no means saying this isn't a decent wage, especially with the benefits and pension. However your average city worker is by no means bringing home cash loads of money.

Some of these people may well be home owners already and would be just moving to a different job.
