Completely agree! This stretch of highway when rainy is an absolute mess when it comes to maintaining decent visibility. Makes it even worse when you have oncoming traffic with LED/HID lights. I drive a 02 tacoma and I cant see the lane/fog lines and Im forced to look for the slight indentation of where they should be to help guide myself. I was considering swapping out my standard headlights for some fancy blue/white HIDs. I may blind some oncoming traffic but at least I will be able to see the roads.

Probably crank on them ditch light too just for good measure....

I have a small mirror in the car I use on the overly-bright hid's, it makes people shut them off really fast!

Here we go again. Me Me Me. You know you are going to blind oncoming traffic yet consider using it anyway. This is what's wrong with society today.

Actually no more than perfectly legal new factory equipped vehicles all over the roads already.

The biggest issue I see with HID conversions is that many who do them clearly fail to bother aiming them correctly as part of the process.

There's a simple solution for those who complain about night blindness, and that's get yourself some night driving glasses.

Most new Trucks and a lot of older trucks have projector style LED or HID headlights. When you are in a honda civic and they are in a silverado 3500 with 18" wheels its going to shine in your face. Doesn't have much to do with the setup.

This thread is about streetlights; not vehicle lighting. I would urge anyone who is in favor of LED streets to google what other cities have done. Not everyone is pleased. There are even some court challenges over them.

In Penticton, the new lights are pretty much changed over to LED and the glare to oncoming traffic is horrible. A real safety issue. Glare off the sides/rear is awful and they were poorly designed (the shades). Light should point straight down with little side splatter. If you don't agree, try driving down here at night. You will see what I mean.

Be careful what you wish for.

Do some research first, you may discover that Blue / White HIDs may even male maters worst for you in some conditions.
In snow and rainy conditions I find them to be horrible, however fine in dry conditions.

Take a lesson from the stretch of Highway 1 just west of Popkum. Waaaaay cheaper.

In that scenario it doesn't make much difference what the lights are as they will be in your face.

FWIW I'm not a fan of these new model trucks that all have a much higher stance than necessary.

Hey as long as they are DOT approved and I adjust them correctly which I've done many times in the past as I do all my own mechanical work and maintenance on my vehicles its perfectly legal and no different than all the newer vehicles out there.

There is another solution and that's to install those vertical fins on the concrete meridian. They have them down in Vancouver and they work pretty well to stop oncoming traffic from blinding each other. However it does nothing to enhance the visibility of the road lines during rainy nights.

I missed the original story about this. Who is paying for the lighting? From the forum it sounds like West Kelowna is paying for it and, if this is the case, my first question would be why? Hwy. 97 is a Provincial Highway and any lighting or improvements should be done by the Province, not the local governments. West Kelowna has bigger lighting issues on it's local roadways than a stretch of highway.
