I remember way back at Jonathan Seagulls ordering a pickle to be able to drink all day.

Kirk Hamill, son of one time Kelowna mayor Dale Hamill, owned and ran JL Seagulls.
Great place, and yes, many a pickle was served there.
Forget Cialis, Viagra, or Levitra. When you need to get it up fast - reach for new and improved Westcorp. Proud official suppliers of Basran's *bleep*

I will believe the Trader Joe's rumour when I see an actual press release from the company announcing it. Otherwise, it seems somewhat unlikely they'd choose Kelowna generally and Orchard Park in particular for their first location north of the border.

I agree - Safeway left Orchard Park for a reason and if this just a grocery store I can't imagine it doing that well.

Trader Joe's is an upscale/organic/whole foods market (think Choices or Nature's Fare with better selection and house brands). While I would love to see them here, I agree it's a weird choice of venue.

You could even get offsales on Sundays at the pub in Fintry during the 70's

Yes, it's in the Regional District of the Central Okanagan (RDCO)

I wasn’t thinking about that area. However, I was referring to going somewhere to sit down and have a drink.

southy, actually I'd imagined the Penticton farmer's market would be a bit of a nightmare in terms of traffic and that's why I proposed for it to be well off of Bernard Avenue. Perhaps Ellis St or Clement Ave wouldn't be far enough away from downtown? In any event, it does need to move. What about the Mission Recreation Park or nearby Capital News Centre parking lot on a Saturday morning up until lunch time? Or, potentially, across the street at that private school, which would benefit from the monthly rent being paid to utilize their parking lot?

That's interesting that the Penticton merchants haven't seen increased sales but makes total sense.

Cheers,
Doug

Hate to say it Doug - but Ellis and Clement is not “well off” Bernard Avenue, nor is it “far away from downtown.” Also - Mission Recreation Park and Cap News Centre are quite busy on weekends with sports/tournaments/baseball/etc.

The current location is great! Lots of space, lots of parking, central to all neighbourhoods, easy access from the Hwy. Just means those people travelling along Springfield on a Saturday morning need to give themselves an extra 10 minutes to deal with “traffic”.
