Why the Kelowna Airport Only Needs a Single Runway

Why does Whitehorse have 3 runways, Toronto has 5, Calgary has 4 including two over 12,000 ft, Portage la Prairie has 4, Tofino has 3 concrete runways, CFB Comox has 2, Abbotsford has 3, Yellowknife has 2, Moncton has 2 including one over 10,000 ft, Halifax has 2 including one over 10,000 ft, CFB Coldlake has 3 including one over 12,000 ft, Charlottetown has 2, CFB Moose Jaw has 3, CFB Goose Bay has 3 including one over 11,000 ft, Hay River has 2, Saskatoon has 2, Regina has 2, Prince George has 3, Victoria has 3, Kamloops has 2, Terrace has 2, Fort St. John has 2, Fort Nelson has 2, and the list goes on?

It's called keeping up with the Jones'. Kelowna is one of the most pretentious and materialistic cities in Canada, so it's very, very important to have more and bigger stuff than everyone else. It's not needed, but when a sh**hole like Prince George has 3, it hurts the pride.

The current Prince George Airport was planned in 1940 (opened in 1945) - as a staging post for Canadian and US Military.

Realistically, no ...

*there is no room for a parallel runway.

*there is no need nor is there any room for a crossing runway.

*we are well within capacity for the runway we have.

Realistically, no YLW does not have room for a parallel runway. You have a highway on one side and houses on the other side, never mind the hills.

More flights.
More airlines.
More destinations.
More frequencies.
Bigger terminal.
Nicer terminal.
More passenger amenities.
Big plans for big expansions.

My friend was stick at the Vancouver airport of 8 hours after the last storm because of the massive backlog flying into and out of Kelowna. If there were a second runway, they could get the backlog cleared up a lot faster!

Lol - yeah OK - that “backlog” of a dozen planes will go so much faster with a second runway. It’s already been established that YLW doesn’t require one nor is there anyplace to put one - not sure why you insist on trolling with this.

Things are just starting to move here in Vancouver after their little snow storm - maybe the should spend 10s of millions for something they don’t need just to appease some internet poster.

GRM does a pretty good job clearing snow at the airport. Those guys should get hwy contracts
